Ok, so according to Dethtoll we're all too full of retard to do this anyway, but we might as well have a pop. WRITING IN NO MORE THAN ONE OR TWO SENTENCES, or ideally, a couple bullet points (no lengthy MONKEY FOGGING diatribes or laundry lists please, another thread full of TL-DR and hand-wringing isn't going to do the world any good), in an ideal world what do we do/do not want in a new Thief game? If the devs are at least peeking here every now and then, what is our quick, easily digested take-home message for them?
For my part:
- stealth based pretty explicitly on shadow (Garett is magic and can disappear in a shadow etc)
- the option to have enforced non-lethality (as in failure state on kill)
- THE OPTION TO TURN OFF THE INEVITABLE THIRD-PERSON BITS (this is VERY IMPORTANT)

Stealth and feedback based on light/shadow and sound, with improved occlusion/propagation.
Option to not only play 100% in 1st-person, but with no detectable influence of 3rd-person design considerations while playing in 1st-person.
Greatly expanded vertical movement options through a good percentage of the gamespaces.
Uncluttered, unobtrusive, minimal HUD elements that also look made within that world. No fourth-wall-breaking through the HUD where possible.

There is no chance of rescue here...and I can tell you that after being extremely dedicated on the front lines for several years (as was jtr7). They won't listen. They had their chance and royally blew it...even with the most sensible, well supported ideas for THIEF...It's a terrible shame, and I say this as one who is naturally good-spirited and optimistic.

Oh, it's failed already.
You know what though - I don't think rescue is the right word. T4 is a reboot. It's a new generation of makers aiming at a new audience. It's not for us. It's not for us to 'rescue' it.

Couple of bullet points as requested.
* What Vivian and jtr7 said.
* A great story and believable characters.

I'm sorry I'll try harder.

Thief's an awesome franchise. Have a blast with it.

I'd really like to see Guards able to negotiate geometry obscuring them, climb ladders, and generally be more active persuants. Dishonored made a good step with this, with the rock throwing, but I think there's a lot of room for improvement.

There's your problem right there.

I haven't played Dishonored yet...do they throw rocks when you're out of reach? Were some of the devs playing TDM?
