The few years I've used FF it hasn't crashed even once. But I do agree that it is a memory hog.

Same here. I've used firefox since it was at beta 0.5 or some such number and never had any major crashes or lockups. Out of curiosity, I installed seamonkey. If the 1990's Netscape skin wasn't enough to turn me off, the fact that it crashed less than 2 minutes after starting to use it sure did. Crashed doing the most basic thing too, checking my email. Did some speed preliminary speed trials and fire fox is quite a bit faster at rendering pages. I'm not sure why this would be since they're supposed to be using the same rendering engine.

Firefox never crashed on me until I upgraded to 3.0. Then it was sort of shaky, although not terribly so. Just enough, though, that I got tired of it and switched to Chrome, after which my computer's performance with my web browser open improved.

3.0 was a rather shoddy version, but 3.5 is a huge improvement. The only thing that annoys me about the upgrade is that AccessiBar add-on is incompatible with 3.5, so I have to use FF's built-in color controls instead.

Here's something interesting...and dumb. (
http://www.techflash.com/microsoft/Opera_Microsoft_differ_over_browser_icons_in_Windows_ballot_proposal_51792607.html) Read.
Yup. More pedantic BS from the Opera guys. This time they're bitching about the big blue E, saying it's unfair for MS to display it since every grandma in the world associates it with the internet. So what are they suggesting? Take out all the icons, and confuse all those grandmas even moreso. Course it isn't gonna help them much, since IE is called, you know,
INTERNET explorer. Even as a text link, it'll more than likely be the first thing every regular not at all hardcore geek type person clicks on.
So why am I posting this here? Well, there is one other name on the list that's fairly well known. Something that might catch a grandma's eye and make her click on something besides IE. Google. Because of this ballot and Google's strength of brand, I'm thinking we'll see a fairly impressive upswing in Chrome usage here in the near future.. Probably not enough to put a massive dent in IEs big marketshare, but maybe enough to even it up with Firefox a bit.
