Let's settle this once and for all: it's Day-oose. - by Dario

It's easy to think it's "Doose" when you hear alot of English pronounciations like the movie "Deus Bigalow, Male Gigalo" and stong-bad sayings such as "Double-Deus"... both pronouced "Doose".
Never wonder why someone thinks it's "Doose". Go figure that they've gotten it from somewhere. :erg:
If this helps, Dario, it's actually
Deuce Bigalow (check imdb) and double-deuce. It is pronounced doose. It means two.
Deus is the Latin word pronounced day-oose. It means "God", or "God enriches." Something like that.
And that's how you can tell the two apart. Now you have experienced the joy of spelling. *dreamy sigh of the spelling nerd*

hehe ...So double-deuce means "double-two"...
and "Single-Deuce" means "single-two"... that's pretty funny. :D
Anyway, thanks for pointing that out, Wynne.
Now I know a few new things... :)

One time I mentioned Deus Ex in Ecology (and pronouced it correctly, Day-S Eks) and the moron sitting next to me goes "Did you say 'day of sex'?" and he and his moron friends start laughing and then he cracks some jokes about it.
Some people need to be shot.

This might seem a little slow, but I've just replayed it and got the meaning of the title after talking to Morpheus. I love the game even more now. :)

Just to be technical, in classical Latin it would actually be pronounced "deh-oos" with a short e, like hello, and a short oo, like book (as opposed to a long oo like moon).
Of course, I don't mean to say that the game title is supposed to be pronounced that way. "day-oos" sounds perfectly fine to me, and that's how I pronounce it.
I agree with you there... alot of modern words uses Deos as a base, deh-oos sounds closer to the spanish word for god Dios... and spanish is pretty close to italian wich in turn is prety close to latin.... and it sounds best too I must say.

I'm kind of surprised to find this thread here. I have recently become the proud owner of a copy of "Deus Ex - Game Of The Year Edition" for only $9.95 AU
I was never sure how to pronounce it, and now that I own the game I thought I'd better find out. I asked my very literately skilled friend (because I am obviously not) how you pronounce it. Having sung latin in the choir before, she told me how to pronounce it and roughly translated it as meaning "from god" or "out of god".
I'm surprised to see this thread here, 'cause I figured that the game is so old, this debate would have been settled long ago. I just think its funny that this thread should pop up ready for me to read in the same month I got the game.
I too, am struggling with changing from "Dezz Ex" to "Dey-oohs Ex". Names must be pronounced in the accent of the language they were created in.
I think it sounds better, pronounced properly. If you've heard a lot of latin before, its sounds very refined and classical. "Dezz Ex" sounds so common.
The game seriously rocks, btw. It's like a Sci-Fi Thief, with really cool RPG elements, and no "menu screens" between "missions", just a constantly flowing gameplay like a movie.

Have fun playing! :thumb:
But watch your pronounciation, or I'll have to kill you... :erg:
