How much do you want to bet that the complaint based blocking gets so overwhelmed with reports that they block first, and then put off the investigating indefinitely? Kind of like the way DMCA takedown notices usually get handled in the US. Say goodbye to teh intertubes, Oz.

Australia in backwards thinking episode on technology. Who would have guessed?
This coupled with the insane law that means there can never be a legally sold 18+ game makes me wonder wtf is going on there?

Just to be clear here, all this means is that the government is proposing legislation. Although it's hard to see the more conservative party voting against it, it hasn't happened yet.

The same internet censorship system is being proposed in New Zealand.
On the general censorship side, our conservative shitbag crowd are really angry that the Office of Film and Literature Classification will not ban the same games Australia does. We have a 16 and 18 certification for games - the only ones they bother classifying are the ones Australia bans. Everything else, they use the Australian classification. It strikes me as a seriously bad idea to be relying on any such decisions coming from there.
Apparently the last time the censorship regulations for games were questioned in Australia, it was fine with everyone to have an 18 category, except a single state's... um... head legal guy.
