I get up @ 4:30 am anyway, but am getting up an hour early just to check out the sights. Anyone else stoked?

I'm still a bit confused by this? I can't recall a meteor shower ever getting this much attention in my lifetime. What is so special about this one?

Well, I am a great big fag for anything in I can use as an excuse to get out my telescope. Dunno about the rest of the world...

That's exactly what Galileo said

I always screw this up and end up watching on the wrong day. 4:30 am on day X DOES NOT mean stay up late on day X to catch it early in the morning

Happens every year, and every year there's a bit of attention about it.
But this year it's also a new moon so it'll be more spectacular.
Here in the UK the best time will be about 9.30-10pm on the 17th.
But the forecast looks shit were I am, when it's good here though, it's spectacular. We've got minimal light pollution.

Cannot see it in Europe... but I hope you have a great view! Make some pics if possible.

We can, we just don't get the full peak, either here or the in States, but I've seen it before when it wasn't at peak and it's pretty damn impressive nonetheless.

No, it means stay up late on day X-1 to catch it early in the morning.
(There are other ways to reach 4:30 am?)
