does anyone have any advice on how to get a lot of money legitimately and quickly? It would be even more helpful if your strategy is possible for lower level characters.

If you have Tribunal, set up the grumpy trader (in a shop in Gt Bazaar, his name is Sulen Hlas or something like that) with the girl, who's wandering around the gt bazaar. You'll get an artifact as a reward if you succeed (unfortunately quest outcome is random, so no guarantee); this artifact is fairly useless, but valuable and can be sold to the Museum of Artifacts in Godsreach.
There are other unique artifacts that can be sold to the museum for more money than anyone else will offer you. Many are worth keeping, though- and many are quite difficult to get.
Other than that- steal and sell. Sword of the White Woe is worth some 17k, and can be pinched from a guard tower in Balmora. Invest in a good chameleon spell first!
Search these forums for the location of the Talking Mudcrab Merchant and Creeper the scamp, who have 10k and 5k respectively, so you can sell them expensive stuff without losing money.
Personally, having played this game for a while and with several different characters, I don't stress over money. Even without making an effort, pretty soon you end up loaded, and have difficulty spending your cash.

One word: Alchemy. You will never be poor again. There's a nice master level set in the Caldera Mages Guild and Creeper will buy anything you make.

yea deff. steal things and sell them. for a lower level character searching through dwemer ruins and burial sites is one good way to get alot of artifacts to sell. also soul trap alot of animals in grand soul gems for easy cash. putting a rat in a grand soulgem gets u at least 1000+. then sell them to creeper in the orc manor(has an orc name) in caldera. wen uget around level 10 then u should start going into caves and gettin stuff. u can find some valuable stuff in their. i just got my self the randalfs gauntlets or somethin like that but they are good.

I can never have too much money. I once spent 100,000 gold in less than an hour. Probably wasted it on booze and women, but I can't remember (which could very well confirm my worries.) Sometimes I buy cups and and plates and things, just because I can.
This isn't legitimate in the least, but in some cases you can get off without a bounty. In Vivec, each house canton has a treasury. If you can break in, you can find a LOT of expensive items, totalling up to probably around 200k. Probably more. (It also gives your char some nice items, like an almost complete set of Ebony Armor.)
Bombshell on 16/5/2004 at 17:37
yea but if u ever turn urself in and forget about ur armor, then ur screwed cuz then ur ebony armor is gone. plus.....wheres the challenge? u can get a full suit of ebony armor minus the helm in a shrine just south west of khuul. that also where u get the daedric battle axe(the one handed one) u can get a helm in saranos ancestral tomb or in the urkishile astral buriel(not sure where but find one in there) way off topic i know but a help to this person.
Bombshell on 19/5/2004 at 12:29
you should begin to get alot of money around level 12 if u do this. Just raid ibar-dad(come light, cuz ull be bringin bak alot of stuff, or just make sure u have an intervention of some kind)(just did this and made 60k) once you open all of the locks inside the little chamber to the right and get the daedric ax and sheild, look up above the corpse and grab the Elidons ward. very very very very good. better than the daedric sheild. its a heavy shield and is worth 200k. after i did this, i realized how much money i made. i have around 120k and i have only done one mission for the blades.sell cheaper things to creeper than progress on and but ur stuff bak to even out the number of sold items to 5k. then sleep 24hours then sell the stuff u bought from him and ur good.

Here's a half cheat way:
1) Get 5000 gold
2) Go to Creeper and SELL 5000 gold for 5000 gold
3) Wait 24 hrs and repeat
4) Do as many times as you need gold * 5000
5) After you've done enough times kill Creeper and get ALL the gold (i.e. number of sells * 5000)
6) You'd have to live without creeper after that, but its OK as long as you use console or Mudcrab merchant

Here's my usual method for quick money:
1. Go to the North Guard Tower in Balmora. On the second floor, on top of a Closet, is a Sword of White Woe ($14k). Get the guard to face away from the closet, then steal it, by sneaking if you can, or just grab it and immediately drop it before the guard's dialog box opens. You'll pay a fine, but then be able to pick it up off the ground. Sell it to Creeper for $14k.
2. Use that $14k to Train one combat weapon skill high enough so that you can kill an NPC without dying. I prefer to train Short Sword and buy a Dwemer Jinksword from the Redoran in the Balmora Fighters Guild, but that's just me. I think Paralyze is the best spell to have on a weapon.
3. Travel to Gnisis, and walk north out of town toward Ald Velothi. Eventually, you'll come across a (
http://www.buttersky.com/morrowind/#amuletshadows) woman standing by a pond. SAVE YOUR GAME. Don't talk to her. If you look to the right of the pond, you'll see the very faint outline of a person in full Chitmer armor behind a tree. Don't try to talk to her, either. You're gonna kill both of them (they're bandits anyway, and would kill you if you complete the woman's quest). Kill the visable woman first; she's got much nastier weapons, like poison throwing stars, and she doesn't miss. The barely-visable woman will start attacking with a bow and arrow, but she sucks and will miss a lot. Now, it might take you a few tries to kill them both without dying, but it can be done by a level 1 character with a decent combat weapon skill. Take the Amulet of Shadows from the barely-visable woman. You now hav a ridiculously powerful sneaky tool.
4. Find a (
http://home.twmi.rr.com/hanu9/mwind/open1.htm) merchant that sells an Open spell. Buy it.
5. With the Amulet of Shadows, you should have no trouble Sneaking past the Bosmer merchant on the 2nd floor of the Balmora Mages Guild and stealing her soul gems. These will include several lesser gems that we're about to use, plus a Grand Soul Gem with a Winged Twilight (retail value $60k). So alreday, you've made a ton of money.
6. Take a trapped soul gem and an Exquisite Ring (buy one from the Fine Clothier in Bamlora, IIRC) to any enchanter (other than the above Bosmer, she'll get cranky). The woman at the Mages Guild in Ald'Ruhn is always a good choice. Have her make you a Ring of Unlock, with 100-100 Open on Touch. Congrats. You're now well-equipped to be a big thief.
7. With the Amulet of Shadows and your new Ring of Unlock, you should be able to break into anywhere and rob them blind. Specifically...
8. The Hllalu Vaults in the Hllalu Treasury, Hllalu Canton, Vivec.
9. The Redoran Vaults in the Redoran Treasury, Redoran Canton, Vivec.
10. The Telvanni Vaults in the Telvanni Tower, Telvanni Canton, Vivec.
11. The smith's shop in Ghostgate, Tower of Dusk. Full set of glass armor and lots of glass weapons.
12. Behind the 2 locked doors in Ghostgate, Tower of Dawn. You'll find a Buoyant Armiger and a ton of Ebony goodies.
13. The Storage Room in Ghostgate, Tower of Dawn.
Remember, whenever you get Overencumbered, drop whatever you have on the ground. It'll be there once you come back, and after an item has been in your inventory, once you drop it on the ground, you can pick it up in full view of a Guard without them accusing you of thievery.
Ok, the above is a little exhaustive and overwritten. But hopefully it's specific enough to leave little room for error. With those steps, you should be able to have well over $1,000,000 with about 1.5 hours of Real Life playing time.

how do you sell Creeper the Sword of White Woe if he's only got 5000 gold? do you just have to keep buying stuff from him until he's got enough (which would kinda defeat the point...)? or does he make money off stuff you sell him or something?
anyway, just curious. i'm gonna try messing around with alchemy too, sell him some of that stuff.
