Heck, I'll probably look up the first few episodes of the show just out of pure schaedenfraude and to see if they nail the whole swords and sorcery Star Wars feel.

I dunno anything about it but it looks like total bollox. Interesting fancy production values though, somewhere between Robin Hood and Lord of the Rings. Robin Hood was (is) total bollox but it's kinda fun.

No offense, but the trailer looks pretty generic. You could replace the title with that for any movie with swords, magic, dragon, etc. in it, and I wouldn't be able to tell. I have no basis for dissing a story I don't know anything about, but if those are the defining moments in the show, then good luck with the ratings.

You don't read much fantasy, do you? ;)
The essential problem here is that pretty much anyone who writes fantasy spent their early 20's whacking off to Joseph Campbell books. It's all the same story when you get right down to it.
That's one of the reasons I loved the much maligned Douglas Adams. He just didn't give a fuck (or he was just drunk the whole time?). And I love Terry Pratchett for mocking the whole thing, then taking it a step further and mocking the people who think he's brilliant for mocking the whole thing.

They could have asked the actor to tone down his metro haircut for the sake of plausibility. Gel (or mousse?) doesn't look right in a medieval-themed fantasy world.
:erg:
That may seem a bit of a minor thing, but I think attention to detail is important. If they don't care enough about the presentation to make people look like they actually live in that sort of world, I wouldn't be too optimistic about them caring enough about other matters.

It couldn't be any worse than Eragone though could it?
This sort of early teen fantasy stuff comes and goes. It's usually harmless to even decent. It's more inexplicable when it goes big like... well Heros is pretty much in that category as far as I'm concerned.
Wouldn't mind seeing if Bruce Spence is any good. He's distractingly distinctive usually (being a gangly weirdo who was in nearly everything when I was a kid).
The Kiwis are pretty good at this stuff. Hopefully they'll get around to making/remaking their home grown stuff like Under the Mountain and The Halfmen of O.

I'm afraid not... Anyway, I realize that I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to what kind of following the series has, so I take back what I said about the ratings. It's just that the trailer is so unimpressive that they might as well show a block of text reading "insert generic fantasy stuff here" or something. It just doesn't show any effort to draw in audiences other than existing fans. So, I was just dissing the trailer and not the show or the story.

I'm by no means setting this tv show as a great piece of work - but if you read the books by Goodkind, they are generic fantasy rubbish. Guy saves girl, guy becomes master of all, guy defeats bad dude, guy gets girl, twist!
Thing is, the Sword of Truth books get very very adult and deal with themes that I dont think could ever get put into tv media...maybe as a movie, but certainly over a 22 episode syndication theres no way they can do all of the things Terry Goodkind has in his books.
However, he is involved in this so if you like the books then it might not be such a bad thing!
Interesting to see how they deal with Mord Sith.
Oh, and Phantom is fucking brutal - I actually had to put it down for a while after reading the chapters whereJebra(sp?) describes the Imperial Order's actions in detail, along with Richard's vision from Shota having his throat cut.
All women should wear clothes like Kahlan does in that trailer though. Arf. Shwing!

I can see a lot of people thinking this is connected to that godawful film adaptation of The Dark is Rising from last year.

My God...it's.......it's so awful.
