What's the difference between a polecat and a skunk?

The pole, obviously.

A polecat cannot express its anal scent gland voluntarily and the body conformation is different. There is some debate as to the correct classification of the skunk. Some people claim it is a Mustelid, like the weasel, others say it is not. But the polecat is a mustelid and has the same physilogy and body conformation as weasels. It also "poofs" only involuntarily when frightened. Think of it as a particularly stinky mink.
