Also, you can't usually judge parents just because their children are chucking a fit at a supermarket. My wife spends a considerable amount of time with one parent who seemed to do everything right, and yet still had a terribly bratty child for a couple of months.
I would imagine that's an exception however. For every kid who is inexplicably insane in the face of great parenting, there are hundreds who are brats because the parents are idiots. I can't count how many times I've seen kids throw tantrums because mom told them "no" about something, continued to say "no," then, finally, to get the kid to shut up, told them "yes." It's obvious the kid is throwing the tantrum because it works, and the mom is too stupid or lazy to quit letting herself get played. It gets him to shut up for now, but how's that going to work out when he's 16?

That is pretty bad, and I'm not excusing it. But you're seeing that and assuming the parent is that lazy all the time, is if they are some sort of automaton following a formula. It's far more likely IMO that the parent is simply having a bad moment, or finds shopping by him/herself hard to deal with, etc ... and is a reasonable parent overall.
The child's behavior at 16 will be a combination of all sorts of things, parenting in all sorts of situations, extended family, environment, peers, inborn personality, etc etc ... giving into someone a couple of times in the supermarket doesn't directly turn them into a brat, and it may even be appropriate in some circumstances (e.g., the parent has a change of heart because they figure the child has had a tough time recently and needs a break).

Don't give people too much credit.

Well, I dunno ... in my admittedly limited experience, anytime I get a poor first impression of someone, if I have the opportunity to get to know that person a bit better, there is almost always a good reason for it.

(Well, we learn on TV that Every Australian deserves a Fair Go, after all! I figure this is a good principle, because it is not easy to vote for the Unfair Go, which makes election day rather simple.)

On a related note, someone circulated the morbidly fascinating (

Which incidentally, is what you'd get if most of those people sat on you.

Has anyone else noticed that Wal-Mart shoppers are under going some strange form of human evolution that is causing beady-eyes, a broad forehead, a broad ass, slacked jaws, and the inability to manipulate a shopping trolly (that's right, I said trolly) around tight corners? I saw one today in which a person of indistinct description (see above) got stuck on a cement curb and just stood there wondering what to do, while screaming obscenities at his aged mother (or sister...lover...who can tell?) for not coming back to help maneuver the trolly out of an obviously precarious position. Though she did slap him, so all is well and this ends up actually being on-topic.
Now, somewhat related: another patented (

I think you mean that. You are correct, and its scary. I don't shop Walmart unless I absolutely have to.

Either way, I'm scared and hoarding gold.
