If you haven't seen it yet..

It's a bit, weird to watch.
I mean, I can understand why it went viral, the mask is really cute while it's smiling or whatever.
But yeah. I need to find out whatever medication she is taking and get me some...

She's from Grand Prairie, Texas, not far from where I'm from ... and I wasn't surprised.
People are sincere to a fault and even laughing a lot, they don't have that edge like the east coast.
In some poll recently Ft. Worth got voted least funny city in the US and I felt a bit defensive.
This video maybe validates and disproves it at the same time (in different ways of course).
Someone somewhere commented that it reminded them of the kind of way John Candy was funny, like they're good to their core but can't help laughing at the world, and you want to laugh with them... And it's a rare thing these days, which makes this stand out in such contrast. Or something.
I found the laugh impossibly infectious, but little things (like the Chewbacca mask yelling along with her) and her cracking herself up in a feedback loop added to it.
I don't think it was paradigm breaking or anything, but it did hit some kind of ... something just right.
It's interesting that it's taken on this larger significance just by the flood of sudden interest in it though.
It was something that just happened in the moment, so I don't know if it's fair to read too much into it, but maybe there is more to it.

Well, I'm from North Carolina, maybe not as edgy as some other east coast areas like NYC or something. But I've not spent a lot of time in Texas to be able to compare the two.
You made some interesting observations.
I guess the most striking thing about it to me, is as someone with mental illness (OCD, Bipolar), and having lived much of my life in a depressed state, I just couldn't relate very well to the bubbly mood that she was in, even before she put on the mask. Even when I'm hypomanic, which is arguably the best times for me, it's more of a hyper energy and mental focus, not so much "cheerfulness" like she exhibits. It just seriously made me question if she is naturally that happy most of the time, or if it is medication assisted. (Or even drug assisted?)
I'm not usually this cynical anymore... There is just something about the video that bothers me, I just can't put my finger on it.

I don't doubt she's naturally that happy and bubbly all the time. It's a common personality type there. My mom is like this too. I was never really depressed, but I have always liked dark moods and topics, like surrealist art, photos of roadkill or gloomy cityscapes, dark ambient music, and the like, and I have a natural wry cynicism.
And I remember this kind of bubbly personality would go out of their way to avoid even a second of facing a dark thought and can't handle the stuff I like to watch even being in the same room. That's what made me think it's a kind of affectation, but it's so set in it may as well be considered 'natural'. But I'm also super tolerant of letting people feel free to find the happiness they want in life.
So I guess I'd say this kind of bubbliness doesn't jibe with me at all, and I'd seriously distrust it trying to be pushed on me (which happens in some social settings), but for other people like this, I'm happy to let them have their happiness without second guessing it. This is what they get out of life, so I'm not going to be the one to try to take their moments away from them & will try to play along as best I can ... As long as I don't get any flak from them for what I watch or listen to and what makes me smile, or we're going to turn a mirror right around on that shit and see what's there to be so damn cheerful about anyway.
Edit. Oh yeah, by east coast I think I should mean that corridor from Boston to about Washington DC.

Least funny in terms of comedy output? In that case I'm not surprised it would correlate to a place where people are cheery in general. Seems the best comedians are a bit fucked up or depressed. Tho I have the feeling it's like that with art in general. Depressed people pour their souls into their art because it gives them a sense of self-worth. Happy people meanwhile don't produce shit, they're too busy living life to the fullest. I'm generalising, but that's broadly my view of it.

Yeah I think it was things like professional comedians & comedy clubs per capita, things like that. It wasn't very scientific so I'm taking it with a smidgeon of salt.
Some places are just inherently or naturally funny, New Jersey, Canada, Cleveland, or ethnicities, Jews, Mexicans... I think because they're coming from a place that gets easily kicked around & that brings it out of people. And when you're never on the receiving end, you don't get that instinct I guess.
I know I've personally become hilarious since I've been dispossessed and on the road.

The woman in that video brightened my day! LOVE her infectious laugh!

Someone (possibly Wofgoreshow) needs to edit in some dark and creepy music with the laughter in slow motion.
faetal on 23/5/2016 at 14:22
I'm sure it's already been remixed a thousand different ways. Just needs someone to sift through the entries.
demagogue on 23/5/2016 at 22:48
What was crazy about this was the speed, 90 million views within the first 24 hours, and most of those towards the end. People haven't even had time to make remixes, although I'm sure they'll start coming in now.
It's just funny, in the comments they (friends & family) were flipping out when it hit 10K views 3-4 hours later. A few hours later she was practically a celebrity getting interviewed by all the big media. Could you imagine how unreal that day must have been? And still now it's only like the 2nd day after it.
