It seems Apple stopped providing help for Indeo codec-related problems after QT4. At different times, my various media players stop working and start working again for manual playback of the Thief movies, so I use whichever is working best this month.
Is there a media player that will let me play the movies, step frame by frame, let me use the slider without crashing, and use the Alt+Printscreen or a better method to grab a frame? It seems I have to use three to six different applications to achieve this, sometimes.
I'm using Windows XP Media Edition from 2006. I've got Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player 11, and QuickTime 7.5.5 for playback, and I avoid the Media Edition software like the plague.

The DDfix movie fix variable + ffdshow, or derivatives thereof like CCCP (which I've installed) do the trick for me.
XP x64 SP2, latest CCCP, recent build of Media Player Classic Homecinema, QT Lite, Real Alternative Lite.

Thanks.
I have ddfix installed, as well as ffdshow, so how do I get them to influence my media players in a good way?:D
The players work, then they don't, then they do.:erg: Sometimes they play but I can't get a frame grab, and sometimes they just don't play, but they've all worked at some point, and they may work tomorrow.:tsktsk: :p
I'll check into the others you mentioned that I don't have.

I've recommended one already, CCCP. K-lite is just bloatware.

K-Lite was one of the very first packs I'd downloaded years ago, and that's where I got my ffdshow. Matroska Pack was the first I'd downloaded.
I'm thinking there's a conflict somewhere that affects different players at different times. Maybe it occurs when I turn my laptop on, or something, when it's not from upgrading to a newer version.
I'm hoping it's related to a similar thing that happened with my DVD software. For the first few months of use after buying the laptop, I could watch a DVD and alt+printscreen a frame. I haven't been able to do that since. I hoped it was because of an update for copy-protection, but I don't think that's what it is.
Thanks for the help!:thumb: I'll have to get back to you about the other options.

One of the best media players I've found to be is (
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/screen.html) Mplayer. Plays damn near anything. A wealth of codecs installed into it own program folder leaving the system spotless. GUI version is best for beginners.
Using (
http://www.gomlab.com/eng/) GOM Player (could use a few more internal codecs, such as QT) atm, might go back to Mplayer soon.
Other similar players are: VLC and Kmplayer.
Say No, to codec packs. ;)
