I'm currently looking at the Asus UL30 as a replacement for my Toshiba Satellite Pro. Online it generally goes for £500 but I wandered into the Carphone Warehouse store in London today and saw they're selling it for £350 - the only difference from what I could see was that it was a 320gig hard drive instead of 500gig.
Has anyone got any experience of buying a laptop from the carphone warehouse? Obviously thats a great deal and the laptop in question is a beast of a machine that does everything I want it to do (yes - it even plays Football Manager!).
Thoughts?

Buying if from TCPW is no different to anywhere else, Regarding the asus the first thing I have noticed is the gfx card, its a crappy intel HD4500 - its not going to be much cop in games but the Dual core cpu is handy etc, I see you have asked this question before dude...

(
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/home/product/41862/HP-Pavilion-Notebook-DV2-1115EA-AMD-Athlon-Neo?source=googleps) £339 - 12.1" (1280*800), AMD Neo 1.6ghz, Ati HD3410 GFX(will play T3, Doom3, TDM, etc), 2GB ram, 250Gb HDD, Magnesium chassis - 1.7kgs, 3x USB ports, WiFi Bluetooth, Vista Home premium, 4hr battery life, the list goes on.....
The only thing I would change would be the cpu from a single core to a dual core, but I reckon this will up the price to £400+

Oh please do!
I've checked that graphics card and it seems it can handle HL2 fine so that does me - i doubt im going to have much time to sit and play hardcore games anyway.
But i'd be curious to see what you are talking about - what does concern me slightly about that ul30 though is the processor, only 1.3ghz isnt exactly meaty.

What you want is the above spec but with a dual core cpu.. I`ll see what I can dig up for you..

I've not seen that particular model, but I've been quite impressed with HP laptops these days. We have two of them - a sub-notebook and a larger one and both have nice build quality and perform well.

I got (
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5082432/Trail/searchtext%3ELAPTOP.htm#tab3) this Samsung from Argos a few weeks ago, my Toshiba died on me and I was in a real hurry and had to just get what I could in Glasgow town centre.
Again crappy Intel graphics but it's run every TDM mission fine up until Heart of Salvation which it just wouldn't load. (I'm sure I can get round this though)
15.6", 2.1 dual core pentium T4300, 4 gb ram, 250gig hard drive which for £399 isn't bad.

Ok PC world have a few deals on atm and I found the following laptop/s -
Compaq-presario-cq61-416sa - £379(
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/compaq-presario-cq61-416sa-04127275-pdt.html)
Athlon 64 X2 2.1Ghz dual core and HD4200 gfx, 3Gb ram, 15" 1366 x 768, Wifi, 250gb, lightscribe dual layer DVD+RW, win7 home prem & 2.7Kgs. I haven't seen this one in the flesh, so I suggest taking a copy of your thief folder onto a USB key and see what it looks like on the screen this laptop etc..
Notebook review of the HD4200 - (
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-4200.20493.0.html) - its more than fast enough to play even TDM.
This laptop will utterly smoke the Asus in every way bar size and weight and its only £30 more.

that is actually worse in two depts than the Compaq mentioned above.. intel gfx and its £650...

I'm also not understanding the desire to have a Lenovo. As far as I know they're the old IBM brand and most I've seen have been functional, but not exceptional laptops. The one that you've picked out is pretty much twice the price of the one you were originally thinking of getting.
