I have an Acer5920G, and last week the adapter ( a Lite-On) died on me. It actually managed to blow its fuse, although might have been further damaged as a new one didn't help.
So I went and got a cheap replacement on ebay. It worked... for about a day. Now it's not providing any power either. It's not the same brand but some no-name, but I'm quite sure it's the right output (19V, 4.74A, and I think the standard it conforms to is PA-1900-24).
I did notice that Acer themselves sell replacement Lite-Ons for £65, while the cheapo ebay ones are like £10. A bit more research seems some chargers are being sold on ebay or Amazon as Lite-Ons when they're really not so I'm wondering if Lite-on is an overall better quality brand.
So I seem to have two options here
1: the laptop kills adapters and needs servicing. Is this plausible?
2: I was just unlucky with that new one I got, and possibly should spend extra for a decent (Lite-on?) adapter.
What do you chaps think?

This is the first time I've heard it suggested that Lite-On are a quality brand. ;)

In 10yrs of being a computer engineer Ive never heard of a laptop that works killing its PSU, its normally the other way around or both at the same time.
for £40 Maplins sell a universal laptop psu, that will do the job for any laptop (I currently have one)

I have an Acer, and it is fucking trash. I will never buy another. I should have ponied up the extra $50 for a Toshiba. Anyway, they have been using Lite-Ons for a while now, and that is actually one of the more reliable components on the Aspire from my experience. The keyboard keys, and front panel are definite weak-spots, and the battery will die within 2 years.
Lite-On has junky disc drives. They are dirt cheap, but with moderate use, will leave you without optical access in short order.

The laptop itself I've been mostly happy with. Okay it randomly stopped booting once but I did a reinstall off the system disk and all was well again. Also I'm not a huge fan of some of the bloatware included. But still mostly happy. I got it (2 years ago) cos it seemed to offer good specs for the price, ie a half-decent graphics card instead of integrated junk.

To be honest I don't, but the charger that Biker has linked to seems as good as any.

Bloatware. :laff: Never heard that term before but in this instance it is completely appropriate. Jeez, I just reformatted the entire hard disc and started from scratch because there was so much useless and flat-out strange software pre-installed.

And like a week after posting that, the graphics go completely tits up. It's just outputting garbage to screen.
So maybe I won't be getting Acer again...
