How many damn times do I have to read some report about the World Bank supporting some elite small group left over from colonialism that stifles any chance of land reform, which is necessary for democracy and economic prosperity. In Ecuador I bielieve that 3% of the people own 97% of the land.To support true land reform should not be a left leaning position. In this particular case it appears the World Bank has replaced an indigenous land reform movement. It leads me to bielieve that the policies of the World Bank are set up more for control than to bring forth true democracy.
It is any wonder that South America is leaning left again?Who else do the people of South America have left to turn to in order to try and gain some measure of power over their lives?
Stupid ,stupid absolutely stupid.

Who seriously expects an organisation headed by Paul Wolfowitz to behave in a fair and even-handed manner??

Land reform wouldn't be too bad if it was one-shot deal. In Zimbabwe things weren't too bad when Mugabe first came to power and engaged in some of that. The farmers got written assurances from the government that from there on out they owned their land and it would not be taken. Then the government reneged on that, people were no longer confident in their property rights and everything went to shit.

I was very amused until I realised it wasn't the other Hernando de Soto.
