Also as a general caution, don't let stories like this confuse you into thinking that generally parole is a bad idea or should be abolished or whatever. Despite cases like this, which you hear of because they are so awful, prisoners usually get dicked in parole hearings. Denials are unquestionably the norm, and here even if a prisoner is granted parole, the norm has been for the governor to overturn the grant. You don't hear about the hundreds of times each year parole is denied to people who should probably get it because that ain't news.

The funny thing is, there is no room at the jails anymore. We just
shut one down, stopped paying to rent beds at another out of the county's jurisdiction, and nobody seems to be willing to pay taxes to build a new one, which means crime is going up as we get revolving door justice.
