Just what I need, thanks:)
Edit: accept the linked list seems to include movies that don't exist (???)? I clicked on Gilgamesh...looked it up, it's not in the IMDB database, has no website...yet it stars Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif, both big names...very odd.
And it reminded me they are remaking The Evil Dead...grr!

I think it's all films slated to be released this year. Sorry: best I could do.

Blue: Good idea for a later draft - have to finish this draft tonight, so can't quite yet.
So you're not gonna make a remake of an article. I somehow liked the idea.
risk management.

For what it's worth, this article isn't about 'remakes suck' - most people already agree with that sentiment, no need to write about it - it's a more neutral 'why are there so many remakes' thing.
Well, I'd argue that asking 'why are there so many remakes' presupposes their suckiness, and that it's not obvious that remakes are inherently bad.
I'd also look at what evidence is there for an imagined glut of remakes. It's pretty common that people forget the bad stuff from yesteryear, and it may just be that there's always a lack of original IP - if it's any good it generates sequels and so gets written off as unoriginal, or the sequel occupies the few filmmakers capable of making original IP, or simply that few distributors are willing to take a financial risk on something totally left-field. There just can never be that many films that are both genuinely really good, totally original and commerically attractive to boot.
On the first page of google when searching for 'are there more remakes now' or something like that found an article from 1994 complaining that there's never any original IP these days, which made me smile.

I don't see what's wrong with Snakes on a Plane, it's never been done before.
Shug on 7/4/2006 at 06:11
But it certainly should be re-made frequently!
