"Stay Alive" had a hint of a hint of originality in its idea
Who are trying to convince of that?

Brokeback Mountain was banned where I live.
Yet was considerably less 'gay' compared to Cold Mountain.

im just saying that some might argue that it had no originality whatsoever. When I saw that preveiws I thought it looked different enough to go see. Well, it wasn't different in the fact that it sucked...

Wow this thread is bizarre. On the one hand you've got people decrying the lack of originality and the bankruptcy of creativity caused by the sole pursuit of profit. On the other hand you've got people denouncing Hollywood leveraging its industry position to create controversial artistic and political statements at the expense of profit.
And nary the arguments shall cross.

I'm sorry, what?
I asked someone about it today - the cinema wasn't going to show it (1 cinema in town) and the same applied for many other towns IIRC* but there was a public** uproar and they put it on. I remember a Federal MP from up north, Bob Catter, said that "I have never heard of a gay cowboy" (I can't find a news link though) and therefore he didn't want it to be shown. After that cinemas weren't going to play it.

PS: Piln, just in case that photo was semi-directed at me, it wasn't necessarily a religious reason for trying to ban Brokeback mountain - it was kind of seen as an insult to macho cowboys I suspect more so.

That's an even more hilarious reason to pull a film.
