Right now the incumbent British government has taken a bashing in local elections. Front page for now:
(
http://news.bbc.co.uk/)
Lib Dems, whilst staying static
for them have overtaken Labour overall! Oh man, this bodes well. Except for the fact that the Tories are kicking everyone's ass!
It's good to see public discontent being so nicely displayed. If I had voted (that's right, I didn't!!!) it would have been Lib Dem this time  Really because Labour have messed too much up, including the NHS, and the Tories are just too right wing for me.
I have a feeling that Tories will be in next general election tbh. Funny that seeing as in the US I reckon (hope) the Democrats (Obama to be precise) get in. Flip flop, eh, what?

Well thanks for keeping me in touch with British politics SE - I hadn't even realised there were elections going on. My mother has my proxy vote - perhaps I should find out what she did?
Don't know about anyone else but really don't see much difference between any of the parties these days. Just feel cynical about the whole thing - which is an indictment in itself I think. I really wish I felt differently.

Our conservatives, as well as not being particularly more right-wing than Labour, are probably no less moderate than the US Democrats either. So it's hardly a transatlantic "flip-flop" of ideologies.
So far as the next general election is concerned, whoever gets in will have to deal with Britain's national debt, (
http://burningourmoney.blogspot.com/2008/02/real-national-debt.html) currently running at around 130% of GDP, so whether it's Cam the Sham, or the shyster who got us into this mess, they're going to be hamstrung from day one.
I voted for me. 194 other people voted for me too! (okay, the winner got over 2,000, but who's counting?). Over the water in Liverpool, we barely hung on to the council thanks to the damage inflicted by our shitty and autocratic leader. My mum retained her seat comfortably. My dad (

I agree it does look like the Tories are going to win the next general election, if only due to the stupidity of the average voter. A lot of people I talk to are using things like 'labours destroyed the NHS' and 'Labour backed the Iraq war' as reasons to vote Tory but they fail to realise that the Tories were more in favour of the Iraq war than Labour and the general premise of the Tory party is to destroy public services like the NHS.

Bit like in the US then.

SD is in politics.
We're doomed.

The Tories would not be much of a British government what with them being unelectable in Scotland and Wales.
In the North West, they may have had some success, but they're not even mentioned in Liverpool and they're not much better in Manchester.
I didn't vote either.

I'd rather vote for SD than the majority of numbskulls I get to chose from. At least I know a bit more about what he actually thinks rather than what he's told to spout (- well possibly - his utterings on this board might be a cunning plan!) I mean, I bought a second hand dvd tonight from someone who called himself Liverpoolfan de dah de dah- can't remember the rest but had 100% rating. The bloke who got me a mortgage when no-one else could is Liverpudlian. My mother crossed the Mersey every day to go to school! There is something to be said for them - sometimes.

That's right, we should all vote for SD on the basis of 3 interactions you've had with Liverpool/Liverpudlians. I reckon we should vote for the Colombians - I've met 5 (more than your 3) and they're all great guys.

:laff: :laff:
Wasn't exactly being serious - sorry - should perhaps have made that clearer.

*Waits for someone to photoshop SD's dad in that cute cuddly carebear way :P
OT, meh, the opinions of people in Northern Ireland have rarely, if ever, been relevant to mainland politics.
