Cool, if I decide to buy the game my machine should be able to handle based on those specs.

The patch released this week added DX11 support, which Rockstar claims "improves performance".

A new title update is available for the PC version of L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition, including the addition of support for DirectX 11. See below for a list of changes:
* DirectX 11 support added for improved performance on many Windows Vista and Windows 7 setups using DX11 graphics cards
* Option added to game launcher allowing switching between DirectX 9 and 11 renderers
* Additional checks added that make sure a selected video resolution is fully compatible with L.A. Noire

Quote:
Rockstar has not discounted the possibility of creating a sequel to last year’s critically acclaimed L.A. Noire.
Responding to a reader Q&A on Rockstar’s website, a spokesperson said, “Don't count out the possibility of a new game in the L.A. Noire franchise in the future. We simply have not decided anything.”
“We're all very pleased with how that game turned out and are considering what the future may hold for L.A. Noire as a series.”
Rockstar points out that it has never adhered to a predictable schedule for sequels: “We don't always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won't get to them eventually – see Max and Red Dead for evidence of that – we have so many games we want to make and the issue is always one of bandwidth and timing.”

Glad to hear about the performance boost. It was kind of bad on first release.

I've read that L.A. Noire's bad performance was because of the GameShield DRM married to the EXE. Reportedly the game's performance was dramatically better with a "clean" EXE.
Reading the responses by Rockstar's community manager in fan comments in that link to the changelog that I posted, suggests that they'll start looking into the issue from the aforementioned paragraph. If we can get a update with the DRM stripped out then that'd be great.

So this is on Steam for Midweek Madness at a fair price.
Question: Better on PC or PS3? That's all. I was going to get it for PS3 (for sofa-bigscreen times) but if it's good on PC then why not?

My friend has told me that the PC version is fine. All DLC bundled, higher res textures, DX11 mode, more consistent framerate (it struggles a bit on both consoles), decent kb+m support and native 360 pad support (can use PS3 controller with the Motioninjoy driver, set to emulate the 360 pad)... what's not to like?

I originally bought it on release on PS3 but never bought any DLC for it. Then a couple of weeks back GreenManGaming were selling the PC version with all DLC included for £3.75, so I bought it there.
I've not completed it on PS3, but played quite a lot, and to be honest, there isn't a huge amount of difference between that and the PC version. It's pretty much all just about higher resolution and anto-aliasing on the PC. Performance doesn't seem brilliant mind you, and I'm playing on an i7 with 16GB and a GT580.
My original criticisms still stand mind you; while the atmosphere and facial animation tech are incredible, the interrogations spoil the game due to being far too linear in nature. You can have masses of evidence supporting an accusation, bring it out at seemingly the perfect opportunity, and yet have that accusation utterly fail. You didn't accuse at the point decided by the game, so you fail.

I usually don't mind games that have more of an emphasis on storytelling than on gameplay, but I find that I'm pretty unmotivated to go back to L.A. Noire. I will finish it, but it feels like a chore.
I'm still glad for games such as this one, if only because I think developers should be free to experiment; but I hope that they'll learn from the failures of the game.

So I got this with the DLC in the Steam sale.
Question: During the Patrol bit (I'm on vehicles atm) are you supposed to go back to the station between cases?
After each case it just skipped to the next one for me, no station cutscene inbetween just these memory bits about the war. I get the feeling that I've missed something.

Yeah, it skips ahead between missions. It's not a persistent world like most of Rockstar's other open world games, where you go home and save and do sidemissions between the "story missions". I guess partly because there really isn't anything to do outside of the missions, but also it makes sense with regards to the story. Since you're a cop you're not supposed to be getting into trouble around town and coming in to work whenever you feel like it.
