am I the only one who found this sequence to be very exciting and a refreshing change from the norm? I put this part of the game up there in favorite gaming moments of all time. it was just so epic seeming, alone in Hell rescuing some waylaid soldiers, then charging into the town in a counter-attack with quite a few NPCs along with me. I really enjoyed this part.

I was level 3-4
Odd, I'm
still at level 1 and I went through that bit hours ago (in play time).

I just got through with this part of the game... at level 24.
When they say the game scales with you they aren't kidding. No scamps for me. Instead I had about 15 (literally) high level daedra in the castle courtyard with a troop of 5 soldiers all dressed in iron armor with iron swords. Would be nice if my allies leveled up with me too! 30 seconds into the fight and my allies are all dead and my buddy unconscious which leaves me to battle the entire hoarde by myself. And when it was done? I get a cuirass... how nice (no - your goodies don't level up with you either, so more work = less reward).
For those curious, I spent the 23 levels previous doing thief, dark brotherhood, and shrine quests. Haven't even bothered with the main quest yet... just did this one because I decided I wanted to see what was in Kvatch.

I'm in a similar boat. I have something like six Clannfears waiting in the Castle Courtyard. Clannfears are among the worst enemies to face as a melee fighter. I managed to kill two before having to run for my life.
I don't know what to do, so I just left Kvatch.

Actually, yes, there are quest rewards that level up with you.
IIRC, the cuirass' enchants are one of those.

Really? So a person who beat that area at level 5 doesn't get the enchantments?
Sorry... just seemed like the armor was a bit weak to be of level 24 value. :erg:

Actually, they get less powerful enchantments.

Just turned level 12 and most enemies don't give me the life or death battle they did when I started. Bandits and Marauders are pretty straightforward: block, slash, block until they're dead. Flame Atronachs (silly looking things), the smaller clannfears, I can handle them no problem. But sheesh, there are a few buggers out there I DREAD meeting. Trolls! I hate them. They infest the north road above the Imperial City and the road to Leydiniin and my horse cannot outrun them. If there's just one I can handle it with quite a bit of damage but they seem to come in packs and they are IMPOSSIBLE. I first started seeing trolls something like around level 8, I don't remember, but they're still just as hard now as they were then. And, with the help of a couple of convenient guards on horseback, I killed all four or five that were hiding on the north road. But wouldn't you know, a couple of days later they were back (and I was not expecting them). Saw my first mountain lion not long ago. They're tough too but I can usually avoid most of their attacks. Killing them takes awhile, I end up running backwards about from one end of Cyrodill to the other. Not so trolls. The suckers leap way too far and fast.
Can't wait to meet these wonderful Clannfear you talk about.
On the default difficulty Oblivion is a very hard game.

I am mastering trolls now. Level 21. I have a SWEET elven battle axe that has 10 second soul trap. I have azura's star, and Trolls are Grand souls!!! Packs of them can recharge my entire inventory.
