Hey guys I'm white.
Can someone let me in on the secret white word that will let me justify everything from always being in the right to physical violence if someone says it to me?
That's some twisted logic as it's obviously not about the word but the history of oppression it stands for. The fact that
some black people use victimhood as legitimation for their wrong actions doesn't make it right for you to act as if that oppression was only imagined on the whole.
The same sort of "reasoning" can be heard from closet-nazis quite often when they talk about how Israel uses their "role" as victims during holocaust to do "the same" to Palestinians.

If we were having this discussion 175 years ago, you'd have a very good point.
Does that mean people can't use the word 'Indian' or make tired jokes about Native Americans because those things remind us of our history of slavery and repression?
I won't deny that the word nigger has overtly racist connotations, but unless the person using it is exerting some force or direct influence over the person it's being used against, it has nothing to do with a 'history of oppression'(slavery).

So, it's not allright to use that history of victimhood as justification for 'wrong' actions, meaning that it's OK to use it for 'right' actions?
Remind me what's 'right' about lifting a finger against Richards? He just killed his carreer. The only people who should be concerned about this is him, and his potential future employers. Well, and the people who are going to make the choice of whether or not to listen to his future stand-up comedy.
Doing anything above and beyond that is not 'right.' You can think of him as a cunt all you want, but what he said isn't against the law, and it damn well shouldn't be. (Seeing as how he didn't call for the crowd to lynch the hecklers right then and there)

Maybe it's just not your business to decide whether "nigger" may be an appropriate term under certain circumstances, white boy.

How the fuck did Michael Richards kill his career? I'm not saying he didn't, but if we live in a world where a single world can kill your career - then that's fucked up.
Sometimes, I think the problem with 'nigger' is that it has too much power - it's been locked away in the do-not-say vault and so it's so shocking when people say it.
Look at "fuck". Way back when Fuck was the total conversation bomb. Raymond Chandler censored it out of his novels for chrissakes. But then everyone started saying it all the time and now no one who doesn't live in a hole is shocked by the word, it's normal conversation.
Course, I dunno how to fix this - it's not like we should go around saying nigger all the time because unlike fuck, it's not a general-purpose word, it's a racial epithet (what the fuck is an epithet, anyway).
I just think this whole affair shows how much the media still sucks. Why is CNN Headline News covering this shit?

Yeah, turtle's white, his opinion doesn't count.
Hell, might as well just skip the sentencing part of judicial procedures, then. It's not the judge's business to impose sentences, but that of the victim, right?
I mean, it wasn't the judge who was enslaved, I mean, beaten about the head and shoulders in an assault trial. Clearly the victim will be able to settle on a just, fair, and impartial punishment for the defendant, right?

It's due to the media attention. If this weren't making headlines, he'd just end up with a pretty bad mark on his record, but after this, I doubt that he'll be performing stand-up comedy in front of more then two people at a time.
Aerothorn on 26/11/2006 at 19:54
Well, then maybe he'll be available for birthday parties? He can come to mine!
Jeshibu on 26/11/2006 at 20:57
Just make sure you don't invite any black people.

God forbid Kramer say something that Chris Rock or L Jackson says every 60 seconds.

To those of you people who think Richards is suddenly a racist, or that he needs to be sued until his pockets are bleeding.. Ever been on stage? Its not quite like an argument when someone heckels you. Because theres the belief that if your on stage, your not allowed to reply to hecklers, and if you do its clearly YOUR fault. Its worse on stage, because its not just that they're taunting you, they're doing it in front of an audience while you're all by your lonesome on stage. Thats not to say that Richards didn't fuck up, or that what he did was right. But its understandable that someone would snap under that kind of situation.
Also, i'm wondering if he was coked up on stage. No, this isn't some kind of cutsey "ooh, crack head." thing. I'm really thinking he might've been, just from the way he acted. He started off pissed, and just got more and more worked up as time went until the camera cut off. (Don't know what happened afterwords.)
