race. To focus on race misses the larger picture of communication and context. There are an infinite amount of instances where the context of a phrase or word changes the meaning, from the telling of tasteless jokes to the uttering of a simple phrase like "I love you."

But the
assumption people are making is that it was, since Richards is white, and the people he was saying it to were black.
There's a word for assuming things of people because they belong to a certain race. Guess what it is?
