Come on folks...lets meet the challenge. :)

Komag, could you, please, allow at least the sky box to be placed outside of those cubes? It would encourage the builders to make some small outside areas (like small garden, entrance to the crypt etc.) It would make missions more real, nice looking and fun! :)
Just dreaming...
BTW, Komag is probably working hard on his own mission. He hasn't been in this thread for a long time... ;)

Skyboxes - you can make them anysize, but the smesh skylines are close to 512x512x256, so that's 1/8th the area of the mission, though you can use the Render>DrawScale to shrink them. It just depends on what you want and what kind of detail/perspective you want in the sky.

Well, i'll have a shot too. This is the first serious mapping i've done for any game mind you, so it will probably be really crap.

I made my sky box 256 x 256 x 128 and scaled down the smeshes, but the star dome still sticks out the bottom of my box and will screw up any room I try to build there. I guess I'll have to move it to the bottom of my map and try to find an elegant way to build above it without looking too contrived. :p

Alright, count me in for the contest too. My experience is limited: I got about 70% done with a couple of dromed missions a few years back, and I've spent a few months messing with t3ed. The size constraints (and time constraints) of the contest should help me actually finish this one.

Komag, is there any update on the rules regarding skyboxes? Only now that I'm actually using once I realize that it is slightly unfair because those that don't/can't use one get an advantage in the whole thing, I'd end out knocking out an entire floor (maybe even two floors) if the ruling isn't changed.
I'm now half-way through my Contest Mission, and I reckon I'll be finished within a week, although the rebuild times are getting longer :erg:
This also of course assumes that I'll fix a couple of my triggerscripts (I've got a huge script system that's taking me a while to work out the problems in it, although I'm not gonna scrap it cos if it works it'll look great)

As far as I remember, Komag has never changed his mind after setting the contest page up...

I still need to update the Contest 6 page with some of the previous questions, which I'll do very soon.
bukary's right in this case, no change on the skybox thing - it must be within the mission boundaries. Taking up 1/8 of your space shouldn't give you much disadvantage though, I wouldn't fret over it. The main thing will be your creativity and design, players won't notice the difference in a playing area that is 7/8 versus 8/8.
nomad, you might try foregoing using the star dome and just paint your skybox walls with star texture
a skybox could be extremely tiny if you want, you'd just have to trade off some detail in the textures, but it would be entirely decent to have a smaller one that takes up less than 1/16 or even 1/32 of your whole mission size if you REALLY are strapping for space.
last word - don't worry so much about squeezing out every last drop of space. "Best Use of Space" is only one of ten voting categories, and last time around it was voted as not very important anyway. So just aim really small and have extra room if anything.
Good luck!!! :thumb:

Komag, will you countinue on making really advanced (in terms of scripting) missions for alsmost every contest? :)
Trying to count the participants...
