I'd also like to suggest, as a practical limitation, that the levels should be built without expanding your vertex pools - if they are, turn it off before you contine work, and if you start to get "serialized index out of range" errors, then you are building too much, or using too many different types of staticmesh.

You are running the show, Komag, but... this contest map size is VERY small. Such maps are very hard to navigate and there might be some problems with movement (Garrett's movement in T3Ed is terrible). Also, it is
almost impossible to buld some enviroments within these limits (like small city mission). (And I know what I'm talking about; I entered "the smallest" contest few years ego and I had to resize AI meshes to make my entry possible). :( I wish we could at least place sky box out of those 640x640x640 cubes.
But, as I said, it is your contest (thanks for making it possible again!) and we should just follow your rules. :)

This is an "aesthetical" limit. No. No. No. ;)
BTW, can more than two persons work on one mission?

A more insidious question might be if we can use map scaling?
Could I build at 1/2 or 1/4 scale, and use the Level Scale property to restore it, and so massively expand how much could be fit into the space limits?

Why not? The winner of Contest 5 was made by Morrgan and Vigil ... if 2 why not 3+?

I will try to make a mission. This will be the first FM ever for me.
I want to see what people can do with this editor. :thumb:

The winner of Contest 3 was also made by two persons... But it does not mean "if 2 why not 3+", does it? ;)

That sounds like cheating to me. :cheeky:
I'd like to enter, and I hope to at least make an attempt, but no promises...

Komag, the style of my FM requires a slightly layout for my 40x40x40 cubes. Can I chop some of them in half? See my layout is as follows:
Two 40x40x40 cubes (i.e. one 40x80x40 cube) for a large main room and two seperated 40x40x20 cubes. These can go on top of each other with teleporters to form one 40x40x40 cube, but I also need to put four 20x40x20 (making up one 40x40x40 cube) cubes on either side of the main room.
Basically what I'm asking is that, since they add up to the same volume, can I split the cubes in half and move them to either side of a room?
Still hoping for an answer...

Okay, okay ... I have no idea whether 3 people working on an FM is going over the line, but it would be a sort of arbitrary line if it were, and, besides, why do you need 3+ people for a Contest sized mission, anyway? More than 2 people in most cases probably means less focus.
As for splitting up boxes, at least for the dromed contests this wasn't allowed, but that had to do with the way Komag wanted to verify the area with simple to identify cubed area brushes. But it stands to reason it would apply here, as well.
Now, I have no idea why I'm bothering to speculate here. I must be particularly bored today to answer questions it's not my place to answer. :laff: Feel free to totally ignore me and wait for the vox custodi de lamnia et aurum to come booming down from the sky.

Good questions again, I'll try to work them into the info page.
No splitting boxes, sorry. You can only place four 40 cubes and then build in them, that's it, no other variations. Within one box you can make two layers though, as you already mentioned. Just be glad you aren't limited to a single 64cube like the first contest (which actually still worked pretty well).
No "map scaling" of course, though I think you knew that already ;)
Yes, any number of authors can collaborate on making a mission if you want. So you can assemble a team of 40 authors  , but if you win I don't know how you'll split the DVDs!
