Thanks ascottk and potterr. I did have a stray user.ini in my zip. Got rid of it and am now using user_patch.ini with vertex pool adjustments (same as in my T3ED install). Still crashing, same place. I will keep experimenting, but any other ideas would be appreciated.

Is there a standard procedure for doing this, or do I just keep throwing crap into my zip until it works?
Schism had similar problems originally, but we traced the required file by using the Opt version of the t3main.exe and scanning the t3main.log that was generated. Once the (apparently random) missing .tim file was copied into the CONTENT/T3/StaticMeshes/DynamicallyLoaded folder all was well. Vertex pools is definitely the first port of call though.

Okay, found the problem. The registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows\ION_ROOT was pointing to my T3ED install, not my non-editorTDS install. Probably because I have been using Thief3Launcher and didn't leave the ION_ROOT toggled the right way. So GL was running the t3.exe out of one directory but ION_ROOT pointed to another. This explains all sorts of weirdnesses I've been seeing. Now my FM works great from GL. Thanks to all for your suggestions.
One last question (for Komag): where do we upload our betas to?
Komag on 27/9/2005 at 02:40
Sorry for being "out of the loop" for a while, real life has thrown me some doozies.
Contest dates/deadlines pushed back TWO WEEKS
So:
Beta's due Oct 9
final due Oct 16
public release Oct 23
Sorry to those who are done/almost done, sorry to players, but it has to be.
I will have this all clarified at the Keep as well
ProjectX on 27/9/2005 at 06:44
Ok, I might just be able to make that deadline! Thanks Komag!
potterr on 27/9/2005 at 07:01
Cool, that gives me a bit of extra time with GL too.

Heh. If I'd known that a couple of weeks ago, I might not have stopped work on my map.
I probably still won't make it, but we'll see what happens...
Dark Arrow on 27/9/2005 at 15:14
Are [were] we supposed to release a beta before the beta deadline? I asked about it from Komag, but he hasn't replied yet.
Edit: Looks like I can't read or I'm going blind.
Komag on 27/9/2005 at 22:26
Sorry, DA. Beta deadline is Oct 9 now, so a basically finished product should be sent to me via FTP (instructions later) or otherwise. Then another week for tweaking/fixing/etc before final due date when we'll repeat the process of FTP/other.
Crispy, try to get something worked out, a basic mission that runs in GarrettLoader, doesn't have to be perfect and polished, just working! :thumb:

Problem is, I'm an incurable perfectionist. I'll spend hours tweaking one room at the expense of, say, mapping out the BSP for the rest of the map. :cheeky:
I'll try and get something done once I figure out what the objective for the map that I started making is going to be...!
