EDIT Oct 25 - MISSIONS RELEASED!!! See Shadowdark for details/downloads
------------
Contest 6 is starting on time today! All the rules and setup are detailed at the Keep, so check it out!
Basically, you have a nice size limit which will help you avoid overextending yourself. Other than that, pretty much anything goes, so get started today! You have about two months to make a small mission, which should be more than enough time (you could do one in a month and be done early, or you could even start next month and still make it just fine, either way).
Also, I'll be working to finish up the tutorial very soon to help with the contest, but it's already mostly finished now and is certainly useful to get well started.

EDIT Sept 26:
Sorry for being "out of the loop" for a while, real life has thrown me some doozies.
Contest dates/deadlines pushed back TWO WEEKS

Sorry to those who are done/almost done, sorry to players, but it has to be.
I will have this all clarified at the Keep as well

Another item for the FAQ: What about sky boxes? Do they also have to be inside the mission boundaries? They are not really part of the mission space.

Just to give everyone a little more perspective on the map size rules:
* First, Komag doesn't seem to have mentioned that if he wants to check the size limits are met, you are going to have to submit three (3) versions of your map to him - the gmp, ibt, and the unr
* Second, my map, Townhouse, uses about 7/8 of the available space (or 3 and 1/2 of the cubes), so aim small.
Your skybox, if you have one, and if it gets counted on the sizelimits (I'd imagine it comes under the bluebox bit), is probably going to be about 1/2 a cube.

I think I'll throw my hat in the ring guys. I think I've spent enough time with T3Ed to be able to pull something off. Especially a small mission. Sounds like fun. :)

Good FAQ item B, I'll add it in when I get a chance. Z's right, skybox counts as blue room stuff, must be in the boundaries, though that shouldn't be a problem really as you can make a relatively small skybox that still looks great (512x512x256 would be plenty for examplt, less than half of one of the cubes :) )
Thanks for the reminder Z about adding the unr file so I can check it - I'll add that info as well.
Yes, you'll have to keep it quite small, but this is a good thing. It means we'll get completed missions! I'm hoping for at least 6 to 8, crossing my fingers for 10 or more. :thumb:

I truly hope to cross the finish line. I'm sure it will suck...being my first mission but that's what first missions are all about. :)

I've already exceeded the limit in my FM, it already needs to seperate levels, not to mention the entry level. Still, I guess I can release it later. Chopping it down would ruin the style. I might make a different one interim.
EDIT: Komag, the style of my FM requires a slightly layout for my 40x40x40 cubes. Can I chop some of them in half? See my layout is as follows:
Two 40x40x40 cubes (i.e. one 40x80x40 cube) for a large main room and two seperated 40x40x20 cubes. These can go on top of each other with teleporters to form one 40x40x40 cube, but I also need to put four 20x40x20 (making up one 40x40x40 cube) cubes on either side of the main room.
Basically what I'm asking is that, since they add up to the same volume, can I split the cubes in half and move them to either side of a room?

First questions:
1. What do we submit? IBT, unr or gmp?
2. Internal teleportation within the level is allowed, I assume?
Looks like I was building an FM three times the size limit and I even had plans for making the fm twice as big. Time to do the architecture all over again.

Dark Arrow, with regards to 1) best bet is an IBT file if you want people to play (who don't have the editor).
