Went to a karate lesson this morning. Haven't had this much of a workout since that time i came out the womb. Getting punched and kicked in the chest was sore even with the padding, then i almost broke my toe by stubbing it on the mat. Joy. I was planning to go to a judo lesson straight after it, but that idea was soon squashed. I'm off for a nap.

I wanna be just like CHUCK NORRIS!!!!!!!!!
Hehe, he's my hero ;)
Now truthfully, i'd like to take Hap Ki Do, or Kendo. Just with Kendo i'd pay out the ass with driving and I dunno if i'd be worth driving 3 hours every week to go to it. Meh, well I'll do it someday!
Hap Ki Do and just "Schala's-Kick-Your-Ass-Kwan Do" Works too.
Hehe, I love this guy :p

I don't think a lot of the popular martial arts the best for actual fighting either. Anytime there's free-style competitions, like ultimate fighting, so often it just reduces to who is the best wrestler. And I watched a Tai boxing match once live, and they were brutal.
But it's still something to learn that kind of body control in martial arts. I took some shorunji-kempo, sort of a mix between karate and judo. I thought of it like a kind of dancing. But my friend did karate competitively and did very well. There's a big difference between street fighting and competitive fighting when both fighters are under the same restrictions. Then it's more about control and tactics.

One thing I can't help notice in this and every other martial arts thread I've read is that nobody ever suggests the ancient art of professional wrestling.
You hit a guy with an Atomic Drop, then follow up with an Inverted Bulldog and slap the Sharpshooter on him, man, all the eastern martial arts bullshit in the world ain't gonna save him.

Why are you doing this Facist? And why do judo when you could do ju-jitsu? If this is all for fun and fitness anything is fine. If you really want to be able to defend yourself there are more prudent choices than karate and judo.

UFC is a one on one with rules too. When does one ever get in a "real" fight? If your aim is a UFC style competition then mixed martial arts is a good idea. If you want to beat off a thug (thugs?) and make a quick getaway then perhaps not.

Who wants to beat off thugs? I suppose if you want to try and stop them attacking you it might work, but probably then only if you're a hot chick.

STD, while your MASSIVE THIGHS have no trouble beating off swarms of thugs, not all of us are as well-endowed as you.
