Does CBR even count?
And anyway it's not so much the legality as it's- ... ah, hell, what's the fucking point in even trying to explain it? Aside from DRM issues, being overcharged way more than you would for a print copy of the same book, not being able to share or resell the book you bought, not being able to read without batteries or electricity, there's certain old-fashioned aesthetic reasons that are less easy to explain.
Plus you don't get that smug feeling of satisfaction when the hot girl comes over to you in the trendy coffee shop and says, "Oh, I see you're reading
Everybody Poops, too. Would you like to bone me mercilessly?"

I
have read the OP, and I do realize this won't be relevant to his problem, but if we're talking Kindle alternatives
in general...

On the other hand, you do get the added perk of not having to put up with when a guy does that to you.

Got a Kindle. Love it. That's it. Bye.
(OK, you haters have to admit the wireless part is pretty cool).

I would think it cooler if it were on sale here. As it isn't, I don't.

I'm afraid I won't see eye-to-eye with those who have this Amish-like desire to abhor all things technical and made of plastic and metal instead of wood and fiber, but I can assure anyone who doubts the legality of my documents that these are all perfectly legal and obtained through legal sources. I'm not pirating books.
Entertaining thread, though :)

The entire package is pretty cool. It's just that it's pretty damn expensive, too.

Funny how no one argues that for Iphones or Ipods. For what you get, I think it's actually reasonable.
uh oh, what have I done...

Amish?!
Brother if that were true would I even be here?

That's also an argument they'll never win (such as the nonsensical comment above about Watchmen being unreadable as an e-book). I mean, I love paper books, don't get me wrong. Paper books are a fantastic medium--easily portable, easily navigated, easily loaned, and yet not easily copied--and yet there is nothing about paper books that can't in theory be matched via technology, other than the tactile experience of turning pages, which doesn't actually have anything to do with a medium's ability to effortlessly communicate content (despite being a pleasure in and of itself).
For the record, I do agree with most of dethtoll's complaints about Kindles as they are, especially in regards to DRM.

To be fair it's extremely difficult to read comics on your average portable ereader due to the format and the average ereader's comparatively small screen size.
