I second the netbook suggestion. i'd like to get one for school, they seem very handy.
Of course you'll still have the 3-5 hundred dollar price tag. but you could do a lot more than just read PDF's with it.

I would prefer to lug around an electronic reader as opposed to a book. The Kindle 1 & 2 just aren't there yet, and they're too pricey. If I had to commute every day on a train or bus, I'd probably buy one. The PDF problem with Kindle is a bit ridiculous. Someone should hack that soon.

Can be, but usually aren't. :p

When he said PDF I assumed that he was downloading book texts off the internet rather than getting them free from the library. He should have specified that they were not books. He even SAID his current device is too clunky to "read a whole book" on- which of course led me to assume that he was- suprise!- talking about reading books electronically.
God you people.

Yes dethtoll, everyone else is the problem.

Oh do stop being an ass. (Tide, do stop coming in!) It was a simple misunderstanding that would've been avoided if grippy here had actually come out in his original post and said that most of his PDF files were not books. I wouldn't want to print out a thousand pages either if I couldn't get them any other way. But that's not going to mean I'm going to set my principles aside and suddenly embrace the idea of ebooks, which as I believe has been established, is an entirely different thing.

Dude, you aren't going to win this one. The_grip was pretty clear in his original post regarding his needs and you hopped aboard a pear-shaped train moving the wrong direction.
We've all misread original posts or jumped on shit that wasn't actually there. That's fine, it happens.
But only stubborn idiots continue to defend their losing hand.
Go to bed.
