I have a bunch of PDF documents that I would like to read on some kind of portable device. My iPhone 3G will read them just fine but it is really clunky to try and read a whole book on it.
I looked at the new Kindle, but I can't justify a ~$360 price tag to read books electronically. I don't care about WiFi, I don't care about downloading newspapers, etc. I just want a device that I can take on a vacation and read PDF files on (that is not a laptop or my iPhone).
Anyone have any ideas? I know there is Bookr for PSP, but I'm not sure how good that is.

How about this: don't get one in the first place and stick to proper books.
Just a suggestion.

i tried reading on the PSP and it plain sucked. from having to convert your books to different formats, to dealing with small screen size, everything was just not up to snuff.
i know that people read books on PDAs and cellphones, but my eyes are simply not good enough for that. right now I make do with a used HP TC1100 tablet. Naturally it can't boast the light weight, battery life or e-ink tech of the kindle, but it does the job (larger than a kindle, still way smaller than a laptop). you can find one on Ebay for well below the price of an e-reader.

Considering many of these are not books, then I don't think that strategy works. Why waste the paper to print out thousands of pages when I can view them electronically?

This looks really interesting... how long is the battery life?

A better question: why bother posting an utterly irrelevant reply when the original poster stated very clearly his needs?
Christ you two, i
t was in the first sentence.
To outline my distaste of all things electronically bookish of course.
