Fixed, IMHO.
Well yeah, xbox controller has a rather large deadzone in the centre, matter of preference I guess. What I kinda dislike about the xbox controller is the stiff whatsitcalled when you have to press the stick, as if it was a button, in a game like Call of Duty which I like to play multiplayer you use it a lot, it's kinda tiring.

Thanks for understanding the , IMHO. I just prefer the XBOX sticks. Yeah, the L3/R3 are harder to click, but I like that. I hate throwing grenades or ducking on accident in the middle of some craziness.
I have been using the dual-shock since its introduction. Ihave always preferred the Xbox cotroller to the Dual Shock (Don;t even get me started on Dreamcast). I feel that after a couple months of use, the Dual Shocks get 'loose'. I have an original Duke Xbox controller that is still tight as a drum. I hated replacing PS2 controllers twice a year. The only worse offender is the N64. Wow, that stick felt cheap and wore out QUICK>

Yeah, the sticks on the DualShocks wore out pretty quickly... though that was probably my fault because I kept throwing the controller at the TV whilst playing God Hand. :o
Haven't had a problem with the DS3s so far, and there's one DS2 that I've been using for over a year that's still as tight as the day I bought it.

I can't decide weather the game wants me to focus on the cover system and hip firing or aiming iron sight. I mean, I'm managing to do both with controller setup Alternate 2, but I have to fumble a bit with crouch and aim.
I'm actually finding it easier with the default controls... I can see why they decided to map the iron sights to R3. Alternate 2 felt a bit awkward when it came to using cover. I'd say give the default control mapping a go and see if you can't get used to it.

The Xbox pads have always been better for shooters, because the sticks aren't on the same axis.

Yeah after a month of gaming all the edges were broken, very cheap. Never had any trouble with the ps2 controller though, and the ps3 controller feels just right to me, I get slippery hands when gaming and the extra friction on the sticks really helps there. I can play on the 360 just fine but have to give the ps3 the slight edge in comfort and control. Racing games on the other hand I like to play on the 360.

I also really like the triggers that all of the controllers save for the Dual Shocks have. I hate those little shoulder buttons.

Well bought the full game, PS3 owners should rent it first or play the demo to see if they can come to terms with the controls, I can't get used to them even after a few hours I am fighting the controls more then the Helgast, game is really moody and it looks gorgeous but the controls imho of course, are terrible, I am getting cramps having to correct the aim all the time. They proudly claim that aiming takes skill, well I say it takes endless correcting there is no aiming assist whatsoever that works against it with such a accurate (or twitchy if you want) controller such as the sixaxis. You start aiming very slowly, and then it makes a jank it feels wrong and I have no idea why they think this is fun.

I read that there's an alternative CoD style control scheme.

It isn't so much the button layout, there is servere lag in the analogue sticks, for a second or so you are turning very slowly, and then swoosh! It's almost impossible to track a target.

THe 'heaviness' of the controls are intentional, and will not be fixed most likely.
