Though you are glad they are rare from a gameplay standpoint ? I don't get it.

I hate battling difficult situations all the time, but I don't get irritated or bored when the same element is often repeated if it isn't too difficult to deal with. Simple really.
That big monster that creates a shockwave (I think it was in X18) is one of the creatures I'm happy that I have only dealt with once so far. :eww:

Well then I think we are in agreement that it would be wrong to use too many big & freaky monsters a lot in a game like this, as it would be bad from a gameplay standpoint.

Yeah, plus it is better for the atmosphere, makes the meetings more. . .dramatic. :p

I think that the number of mutants increases as the game progresses. Have you tried visiting the Dark Valley, especially the building above lab X16 later in the game? I went there once, and had to run away because of the hordes of mutated rats. On my first run, I had only met these rats in Pripyat. Several times, I've also met so many mutants that I was forced to run away, when my usual reaction is to try to hunt them down: huge packs of blind dogs (more than ten), groups of some eight pseudodogs, or five or six Bloodsuckers together. I've also found Psi Controllers in the abandoned village in the Army Warehouse area (fortunately they don't seem to use their 'pull' attack while in the open).

On my way from the Red Forest I had to run like hell because of a huge pack of mutated dogs that had suddenly found their way to the main roads. But even that didn't work (over 50 kgs in my backpack) so I jumped onto a big rock so the dogs piled up trying to bite my ass, but I gave them plenty of headshots without worrying about getting eaten alive.

You didn't get another one in Yantar?
D'Arcy on 3/5/2007 at 16:47
Yes, there should be at least two of them. One in X16, and another one in the tunnels in Yantar.
Bjossi on 3/5/2007 at 18:04
Yeah, now I remember fighting it in Yantar, but it went down very quickly, those powerful assault rifles have that effect on enemies.
