By coincidence, lead of the Cassandra project. I loved his Journey into the Cradle essay in PC Gamer.

Great review, though it is odd that he says there aren't many mutants. Well, it depends on the location but overall I think there are plenty of them, remember the constant flood of mutants near the transition point from Military Warehouses to Red Forest?

But controllers, rats and those really big meaty beasts are very rarely seen. It's dogs, boars, fleshes and bloodsuckers that you really see a lot of, the others were underplaced, I think probably because the game wound up a lot smaller than originally intended.
Bjossi on 3/5/2007 at 14:17
Well, bloodsuckers aren't as common as boars or dogs but much more common than the rare ones you mentioned.
Bloodsuckers are the one type of monsters that I hate a lot, so I can't complain.

It's a good thing that the most freaky kinds of mutants aren't overused. This is not Doom.

What would be wrong with using big & freaky monsters a lot? The Zone seems to have ideal environment for them to thrive in.
Though I'm glad they are rare, from a gameplay standpoint. :eww:

while bloodsuckers and snorks are pretty scary, the first time i saw a controller and my screen started doing F.E.A.R. like effects, i FREAKED OUT !!!
Rogue Keeper on 3/5/2007 at 14:41
Because that would be DOOM.
Where is your sense for careful, dramatic use of spooky elements so they won't become common, dull and irritating?
Bjossi on 3/5/2007 at 14:44
That is your opinion, common usage of some elements don't irritate me at all, unless the element in question is a difficult son of a bitch.
