That is exactly the sort of cloying wankery I assumed this article would be dredged in, which is why I've been avoiding actually reading it.

Well, I finally made myself read it, and it was a nice little nostalgia-fest. Aside from a few slightly-over-the-top pretentious comments, plus that little section of, what was it, "cloying wankery", it was a good read.
I also agree with his basic point about why the lack of an SS3 is a good thing.

It's a big article though, those 2 points weren't the meat of it. Most of it's just pretty much "SHODAN is awesome because of this, this and this."

To whomever has read the article in the actual mag, was the "One Fell over the Cuckoo's Nest" typo corrected? Other than that tiny mistake I found the article a good read, as I have found all his stuff.
I'm glad he recognises that having an SS3 with SHODAN yet again would lessen her somewhat. Though I think if somehow, she won in the end, in a Helios kind of way, that could be good enough. I mean I suppose that if SS3 were to be done today with a decent enough team then it could follow a more open style of gameplay like Invisible War where you could choose whom to side with, ie. you could end up siding with SHODAN in one of the endings, or at least you could try and she would still stab you in the back.

Which part of Helios mythology do you mean?

Also, was SHODAN processing component 43893 the whole system as Mr. GIllen seems to imply, or merely that part of Her which happened to be sitting in Beta grove at the time?
Originally I don't think that Beta Grove held a complete copy of SHODAN. I like to think, however, that as soon as the jettison procedure started, that she copied as much of herself to there as possible, as a backup.

Shev, don't roll your eyes at me like that! It makes me feel I'm missing something obvious although I fear it will end with a "It's that d00d from the game you never played!"-moment.
The only Helios I know is the greek sun god. And he didn't even start a comeback in the 90s when all the other ancient greats did.

Are you one of those "haven't played Deus Ex" freaks? :erm:
