Its a sad fact that almost 20,000 people die every year waiting for a transplant. I was told by someone that could not understand why I was risking my life, that I couldn't save all of them. I told her that no I cant, but I can save one, and if more people had that attitude then yes, we could save all of them.
Also, signing up to be an organ donor after death is a wonderful thing to do. You won't be needing those organs anymore, and parts that many take for granted every day...like eyes or a heart...can be transplanted to give someone else a better life or any life at all.

Oh, as a side note due to my previous abdominal surgery I'm going to have the open procedure as opposed to the lap. They will basically be cutting me in half, from near my spine all the way around to near my belly button. I guess I may also be lose my lower rib in the process. I'll be in the hospital for 4-6 days and 6 weeks of recovery after that. Seeing as how a life will be saved, I consider this a bargain.
Aug 19th, I will raise a toast to you, your friend & a successful surgery! My friend also had the open procedure back in 1995. He healed just fine and was back to pretty much normal in around 12 weeks. The technology is better now, so you should do much better. Best of luck to both of you!

They had a spot on our local news tonight about a crew who are actually in the testing phase of taking people's cells and growing things like heart valves for patients
The problem is getting everything to line up. You can clone meat, for example, but you just get a lump of Spam.

Best of luck with the surgery Displacer! That's an incredibly noble thing you're doing, no matter how much you try to downplay it.

I don't even give blood, like hell those fuckers are getting an organ.
I'm going to dig you up and take every one of yours. Including your eyeballs.

Already on it. After death it's all fair game
But yeah, I admire what Displacer is doing and honestly I'd do the same for a friend. Surgery and six weeks of recovery are a small price to pay for the health of someone close to you.
But waiting rooms full of hollow-eyed strangers can suck it.

Dig him up? I don't intend to leave a corpse:ebil:

Kinda selfish.
I would definately sacrifice something of big value to me, for a reliable, great trusting friend, if i would have one.
