wooh! glad it worked out for ya. Sorry for not being able to make it up, I checked the map and it was a 3 hour drive on a rainy day with a motorcycle that has been sitting all summer:(

Not a problem. I have a few pics I'll post in a day or two, still recovering and taking it easy

Now that you survived this there's probably not much that can scare you anymore...this will make for some great party talk.
Ooh you cut your finger? Pfft, I was cut in halves once!

Wow, you have my respect; and I'm glad it worked out well for you and the recipient. Best of luck with your recovery.
Most I've donated is blood, but I usually don't have enough iron to do even that. :(

This has been quite a read. I'm glad it's turned out well and you're on the road to recovery. That's a pretty amazing gift! It has to feel good to have made such a difference in someone else's life that way. :thumb: yeah!

Hi all
I've finally got some pics put up, the first one is my surgical incision (man those guys just didn't know when to quit cutting!) and yes I am being held together with super glue. The second one is me and my recipient the day after surgery. I'm the one on the right, my recipient is the one wearing glasses.
I'm still recovering, as you can imagine from the size of that incision, pain is still a major factor to me right now so I'm still walking like a 80 year old. I also can't go more than a few hours without having to take a nap. The surgeon said this is normal as my remaining kidney is furiously bulking itself up to take over the job of the missing one, which takes an enormous amount of energy.
At any rate you can see the gory details (
http://wasteland.wikispaces.com/Donation) here.
I can't thank all of you enough for your kind words, they've helped more than you know to get me through the surgery, and during my recovery.
If anyone has any questions at all about living donation, by all means ask me and I'll do my best to answer them. More people need to know about this as 18 of our fellow human beings die each and every day waiting on a transplant that never comes. I am happy to say though that on Aug. 19Th 2008, only 17 of them died.

One of those 17 had my name on him
Seriously, though, you're an insane hero and here's for a speedy recovery.

Congrats on all went well :thumb:
I would never accomplish such feat.

absolutly an awesome gesture. I know how much pain my dad was in and how depressed he seemed after his quintiple bypass heart surgury, and how he moved like an 80 year old and constantly cringed with pain (and his incision was about 3/4 the size of yours). He said he would choose death over heart surgury in the future. I imagine yours was quite comparable, mad props! very inspirational.
