Many of the Kickstarters I'm most interested in are old-school RPGs: this, obviously,
Project Eternity,
Wasteland 2 and the
Shadowrun RPG.
Now we just need a Kickstarter that can capture the magic of
Ultima at its best... but I'm not sure that Richard Garriott is the guy to do it, to be quite honest: (

It's a MMO... he can launch it into space for all I care. Fuck MMOs.

I can't remember how much LB had to do with these individual titles, but in hindsight I'd say that
Ultima Online was the vastly more interesting game than
Ultima IX. The latter, although single-player, was more of a travesty of the
Ultima legacy IMO.

Ultima 9 kept being stopped and started again from scratch. Dev teams moved around to work on other projects (namely various UO2 attempts); moving to a fully 3D acceleration engine; etc. It was more or less EA's fault that that game supposedly sucked ass.
Still, fuck MMOs.

This isn't exactly on topic, but since Thirith mentioned...
...I figured I'd segue it into the conversation somehow.
I've been excited about Shadowrun since I first saw the kickstarter. But when I saw that they're adding Jake Armitage from the SNES Shadowrun in as an important NPC. Oh man. It was a blast of pure nostalgia.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3018396/jake_armitage.jpgSo now we've got a semi sequel to both the SNES and Genesis Shadowruns coming out. Wasteland 2 looks like one of the great, oldschool RPGs we all cut our teeth on back when. And now there's a PS:T sequel to look forward to, which is great no matter how you slice it, and guarantees at least another 30 years of Dethtoll rage posts.
If all these games turn out even halfway decent, I won't have to buy another game for 3 years at least.
edit: ...then I see Icemann started a Shadowrun thread right below this one. Oh well. I'll post it there too! You can't stop me.

Torment: Tides of Numenera?
Awful title.
Oh, it's got an awful title because it's based on an existing tabletop setting from the brother of the guy who created Planescape.
Well.
At least there's Wasteland 2, eh?

And it begins.

And it had better end here, and now, too.

You know as well as I do that there's no stopping or reasoning with Deth when he goes on one of his videogame hate rants. Best you can do is endure them when they come.
