I find it scary how many of you are able to act like this. You're mourning over people you never even met. Your always deeply heartfelt sympathies untouched by any deference.
I have a lot of respect for the ones who really have a reason to mourn. And I do hope for their sake, they have real people to talk to, who can relate to their loss in some way, that isn't a stomach-churning emo post on an internet forum.
My heart goes out to... :( You are in my prayers tonight! :( And best of banality:
Why do the good always die so young? :( You can start your flak now, but for me you are a scourge on the net.
If you really mourn for every unknown dead, what are you even doing here? Shouldn't you be in Baghdad or Africa? Or do your authenticity a favor and jump in a lake.
I'll write a thread about you.

Don't feel bad; my first thought was that maybe Kolya's cat had peed on his keyboard. :(

Well, I think he's kinda got a point, even if his timing is fucking awful (BTW - Dia, that really sucks. The guy had a sweet bike as well, what a time to go). I think a lot of people put across of lot of fake sympathy on the internet to make themselves appear like better people, *hugs* and tear smileys and all that crap. It makes the skin on the back of my neck crawl slightly. It's a bit like when fat goths hug each other and think that they're super sensitive people just because everyone else thinks they're boring.

And you think you're in any position to judge whether anyone's expression of sympathy are fake or not? If anything, isn't it the person in need of sympathy who's entitled to making that judgement call?

well I hate the kind of public mourning that goes on when celebrities die - or Diana, for instance.
But I think it's far different when it's a person who you know better - the internet might not allow us to truly know each other, but we get enough to have meaningful relationships on levels that are far above that of total strangers or celebrities.
That, and the timing, make this pretty insensitive to say the least. This thread is like one of those things I imagine to myself under the headings of "what would be most innapropriate to do right now?"
