that wasn't funny either.
You know, there are other ways to introduce yourself to a new community, too.
(edit) Also, "palate" is spelled <== as such.

Vivian = uncle bacon and therefore not new. The old name was starting to annoy me - I don't even like Roots Manuva that much anymore, and the assocation with pork, while it seemed hilarious for the first... I dunno, year? I'm quite simple when it comes to pork humour, it now has to go. I guess I should do an announcement or something. Anyway, this is my real name. Makes things simpler, no?

Why didn't you just get your nick changed? All the cool kids have done it.

I didn't realise? Damn. Oh well, whats done is done, now I'm all shiny and new. Wow, my oldy has been locked up already? The mods are pretty slick, I'll give em that.

In related news, "Anus not designed for penis" says Surgeon General James Holsinger.
The Surgeon General was obviously endeavouring to extract his head from his own anus whilst proclaiming that.

Clearly it's going to take us all some time to work through this great communal tragedy, and I for one intend to stand firm alongside you all who are closer than any RL family could ever be. We will survive, but we must join together in the mutual bonds of cynicism, mockery, and amateur pornography - the three pillars that have always held this community together.
fett, you just defined the entire CommChat brand of twisted cynicism in one succinct paragraph. How do you do that voodoo that you do? :D
Anyway. I hope this thread peters out soon. It's proved that free speech works both ways, which, of course, should have been expected.
(My sympathies to Dia. In some respects, I agree with what Kolya's apparently trying to say. Which is if you can't mean it, don't say it.
But. Everbody's right: the timing sucks, and the wording too.
While I haven't interacted with you, I wouldn't want to wish something like the first post in this thread on your person(or anyone else in your position, for that matter), which would have read like an assault on your senses. Even with the disclaimer.)

It's always interesting to see people posting in a thread just to say it's pointless or boring.
Also, "palate" is spelled <== as such
Hello Marlow, I wasn't saying it was pointless or boring ... I just meant that I felt it had been panel beaten to oblivion lol. Comm chat can be harsh I know, but from the offset it didn't sit right with me. Just my opinion:)
KOok, I thought it was wrong as i was writing it, but the beer got the better of my English Language skills (that are normally lacking at the best of times):laff:

It's ok, Lesser, we're here for you. I know this is a tough time for you after making this post, but you have my sincerest apologies. You'll get through this.

The ironic thing is that this thread has turned into the very same chorus of redundant emotionalism that Kolya's original post was criticising.
Indeed! RBJ is apparently suffering from an extreme case of redundant emotionalism and it must be tearing his soul apart. My heart goes out to him and I offer him my sincere and most kind support to help him get through these hard times. :(
Cheer up, RBJ, I'm there for you, you are not alone in your suffering!

Nice flag, Paz. Way to represent
I've been spamming a bit, so I'll say that I think it's very nice how, after that first outburst of anger, each side kind of stepped back and approached the other with patience and understanding. That says a lot about how much emotion is at play here (as opposed to jumping on the bandwagon, like someone said, and like Kolya complained).
On one hand, if Dia says it makes a difference to her, then really any argument is moot. But then you have the Anna Nicole Smith mourners.
I once new a girl who was totally fine except that she professed an undying love for a figure skater who just happened to be a flaming homosexual. This has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but I feel it's important that you know this.
Anyway, what about that situation, where the would-be recipient of the niceties doesn't really benefit from them at all? I should say that this isn't limited to death and celebrity, nor is it the same thing as mourning a family member.
I think Kolya is more or less spot on. Setting up an environment where love, or any emotion, is encouraged to be given at all costs (even when it's felt only marginally, or not felt at all) isn't very healthy or helpful. It might make a society more acceptable somehow, but at the cost of discouraging individuals from experiencing the kind of passionate emotion that only comes when it's given with careful deliberation.
It's not to say that universal compassion (paloalto's very laudable ideal) is necessarily precluded by this. I don't think emotion looses value when afforded to many, only that true universal compassion is very difficult to achieve. So more likely than not, any apparent "love for man" is likely the result of some unhealthy kind of social pressure, wherein there is a problem.
