I think the lever probably does enable the book switch. .I didn't enter that room before pulling the lever, so I don't know what it looked like then, but I just figure if you come across a switch in Thief--any switch, just pull it and see what happens. You're bound to find some open door to somewhere if you look hard enough.

am i supposed to jump to the big roof straight across from the 2 noble's balconey before i go into the jewlers place?
(in other words - do i have to reload the save before i took the slow fall onto his balconey? lol)
