Ok, I understand this:
When you have a bounty on your head and you get caught by a guard, one of the choices you have is paying some money and giving back the stuff you might have stolen. What I don't like is that the guard (atleast the Ordinators in Vivec) take other expensive stuff, but hey .. your a thief so be more careful next time
What I don't undestand:
You've joined the Morag Tong, you've got an official piece of paper that proves you're following MT order and which clears you when a guard runs in to you, BUT: Why do they (again, only noticed this so far with de Ordinators in Vivec) STILL take expensive items from your inventory ... What they hell is the use of that piece of paper ... don't mind paying a couple of hunderd coins, but I don't like it when they start taking rare items and items worth 10K+ coins ...
Is this a bug? Haven't applied the patch yet ... don't have the time for downloading 8Mb .. I'm busy playing :p But can someone explain the logic behind this??
/Thanks,
Martijn

I don't know that there's a "logic" to it, per se. In any Official conversation with a guard or Ordinator, they'll impound all your stolen items. And, for most people playing this game, that usually means "almost everything you have."
You can successfully do every single Morag Tong hit without anyone reporting it. The hardest one is the basement of the Elven Nations Corner Club (or is it the No Name Corner Club? Whichever). There's two other people standing there, and you have to have a pretty high Sneak or Chameleon to get a strike on your target without being seen.
My advice - don't get a bounty on your head. Play smart, and if you get caught doing something naughty, pay one of the 3 (4?) Thieves Guild people who can remove it for you, as soon as possible.
Also, when doing Morag Tong hits, it's not a bad idea (if you think you'll get caught) to drop all your stolen items before taking out your target. However, since for most people this also means almost all the weapons you have, this can pose a problem. Its much easier to just do the hits quietly and stealthily. And use Quicksave and Quickload a lot :)

Yay, when they say stolen items, they mean, every item you've ever stolen EVER. Also take most of your picks/probes. It's got to a point where if my Thief was ever got I would be stripped and left with nothing. Your best bet is to kill the peeps and when you see a guard come a running bust open your Inventory and drop every stolen item you have. Or if you can't remember what you've stolen the at least the stuff you don't want them to take.

I usually just resist arrest and then run like hell. Dropping everything in my inventory would take forever, and what a nuisance. They never catch me, and I can always get to the Thieves Guild and get the price off my head quickly enough.
Since I started out in the Thieves Guild though, I dunno if that's an option available to you unless you're a member.

the ordinators are always trying to kill me, even though I removed my indoril armor and have no bounty.. I have no choice but to kill them all in self defense =][
's probably why my swordsmanship has shot up to 100 =p
it's not too bad getting fined and impounded when you've got a stronghold. I keep all my valuables in Kudanat, and most of my supplies as well. If I need something, I just recall it and grab what's needed, then drop what isn't. This way I'll suffer minimal losses should I ever get caught =)
hey anybody tried that sound effects enhancement plugin? my battlemage in glass armor sounds wicked in battle, I've even thrown some short heavy metal clips into the battle music, Carcass really goes well with the fray of frenzied pets gobbling up the baddies while I'm dashing around chopping enemies in half with my Holy Katana. ^_^

I haven't noticed this problem yet. I've done a couple hits for the Morag Tong and got reported for two of them, and caught once, but they didn't take away my stuff when I presented my writ. Everything I have is stolen (and expensive, too). Perhaps the patch fixes it or maybe you just bumped into some stiff Ordinators. ;)
On another note, what's the explanation for them taking your gear at all? If you get reported for stealing a helm, they should take only the helm, as the other thefts were not reported... There should be an option to call the guards on the guard who stole your things without having proof that you had actually acquired those items illegally.

*nog* Yeah, that's one of those small annoying things... guards just know what's stolen, and take all of anything you've stolen even one of. To add to the confusion, I know of at least two dungeons where items are 'owned' by NPCs that are on the other side of the continent... and taking it is considered 'stealing'.
*shrug* Just don't get caught is my suggestion.
