Complicated brush (BSP) work can be turned into static meshes: get a intersected brush of the bit you want save a copy to obj or whatever the option that isn't t3d is, upload it somewhere and ask someone to convert it for you.
I did something along those lines for Beleg a while back: just be prepared with a lot of pictures and be ready for a lot of questions about how you want it.
It may not be so neat and easy as we'd like, but at least it is possible, and it means you can have the details without having to worry about hitting those limits/problems.

What do your pool values look like (see user.ini for it)? If you haven't touched them yet, keep in mind that you can alter them to be twice, three times, even ten times as big. Just write some comment lines (' old pool=blabla) to remember the original values and what multiple of them you are using right now.

I read Komag tutorial only three days ago and I think my approach on modding Thief3 is incorrect... I'll check that thing about "Convert to Static Mesh".

To work on some project?? I've just finished my mod for The Witcher (Red Silk) and I need time to recover myself... So, why don't play with my favourite game ever?(Thief1, 2 and also 3! ;))
