Simple question. Does anyone here know if its possible to join Dagoth Ur?

Nope, it's not possible; he has no dialogue options for it. Good question, though ;)

That part of the game was so extremely disappointing :(
I wanted to join him... Vivec and his cronies are too into corruption and suppression of free speech. Daggoth Ur was all about rebellion. Yet I couldn't help him win...
Yet another missed opportunity for a solid addition to the storyline.

Hmm... solid addition to the storyline? How so? You should be able to sidetrack the plotline? Remember, Morrowind is merely the latest edition of a (probably very) profitable franchise; if they make it acceptable for Dagoth Ur to emerge and destroy the world as we know it, they lose much credibility for any sequels (Someone will complain "But I destroyed the world! This sucks!". Likewise, they can't have the 'destroyed the world' plotline for a sequel, or someone will claim they're copy-catting Legacy of Kain). Furthermore, on that same basis they can kiss the rumored MMPORG based on Morrowind goodbye.
If my guess is right, Morrowind is simply a very nice stepping-stone for them to climb into the realm EQ, AC, etc. occupy; they're not going to do anything to confuse the average (read: to them, dumb as snot and unable to comprehend a lack of continuity) player.
All things considered, and weighing this against the (admittedly cool) idea of siding with Dagoth Ur, I can see why they did what they did. ;)

the only way to help Dargoth Ur is to do nothing to foil his plans, thats how I help my old pal dargoth..... nice guy, has clothing issues (gold mask+loin cloth)
