Why is the western part of Morrowind so loved?
It seems that about 90% of the plug-ins are somewhere between Vivec - Pelagiad - Caldora.
Is that area just especially good for it?
On another note: What is your favourite town?

It's probably due to simple exposure and repetition; most of the populated lands are in the west. Sure, there's a handful of isolated mini-cities in the east part of Vvardenfell, but for the most part they feel hostile unless you're Telvanni... and even then you still feel a little like an outsider. Same for the Sheogorad region... there's Dagon Fel, a couple Ashlander camps on the northern edge of the main island, and that's it for civilised society.
On the other hand, we have Balmora, Vivec, Gnisis, Caldera, Pelgiad, etc. on the western side... most of which are friendly overall and well-poplated with quests. Also, frankly speaking, their architechture is probably more familiar (and thus comforting on a psychological level) to most players (ie: plaster, wood & stone walls as opposed to huge vines or bug shells).
