Okay, I've played through DX start-to-finish at least four times, and individual missions much more than that. I thought I'd seen everything. Well...
Last night I was screwing around with the gas station mission, seeing how quickly I could finish it and still save Tiffany. In one of my tries the MiB chased me back to the gas pumps, blasting away with his plasma rifle... and
the roof collapsed on him, killing him!
I'd never, ever seen that before. Probably because whenever I play that mission for real I take the guards down as quickly and quietly as possible. There's really an amazing amount of stuff packed into that tiny little map. It wasn't until many plays later that I discovered you can get into the tanker and the crashed van. There's goodies stashed all over the place.
That's like the time in Thief 2 when a guard was
up on the mezzanine rim of the treehole in the bank and he caught a hint of me, span around and splatted down below>>> murdercount +1, oy.
I'd forgotten aboot that gasorama DX level. LAMs are fun there: gas.
In other news, progressing along:

Also, a question about that gas station mission. Is it possible to take out the commando just outside the room that Tiffany's held in, without the alarm going off? I've tried just about everything, and the only two ways I can complete that mission are by either dropping in via the roof, or storming in and killing the trooper and MiB before they get to Tiffany.
I just snuck around crouching and used cloak to get behind guys and KO them.
Tought to do it in the area that tiffany is being held in, but its doable.

Also, it's almost impossible to take down the guard behind the building (where the dogs are) without the guards inside hearing it and sounding the alarm.
:erm: I never had trouble with that fello. I always go for the silent, non-lethal route when dealing with the gas station level, I normally just prod that guy and that's that. If he's the one I think he is, that is. :erm: Nobody seems to notice me until I drop inside the gas station.

Also, I discovered a wierd bug, whereby if you lean over a ledge, and throw a grenade directly down, not only do you fall after it, but you then bounce like a grenade. Great for introducing yourself to Maggie at the UC. (
http://www.tetracorp.net/stuff/bounce.avi) Video.
:joke: That video is HILARIOUS! :thumb: I like, I like. You don't take any damage from the fall itself, or anything like that, do you? It could lead to some interesting leaps of faith, kinda like the landing on Dark Engine AIs from any height and surviving, except a little scarier, considering the grenade could easily go off and kill you if you use the wrong kind.

If you have Spy Drone, you can fall from any height without taking damage. If you turn it on in mid-air, JC's falling slows to about an inch a second. So leap off any building, and just before you hit the ground, turn on Spy Drone. (That's one of the reasons I pick it over Aggressive Defense.)

I used the crossbow, sniper rifle, and melee weapons as my main weapons. I never needed cloak, i just crouched and snuck up on em. But i never killed them, i only killed as a last resort. But later after i escape from Below UNATCO and discovering my brother is dead ( i know there is a way to make him alive, i did it once but i dont know HOW :nono: ) and pretty much when i make my return to Newyork with my sniper rifle in hand, i take those MJ12/UNATCO imposters down! (the hotel were the Men in black bust down the hideout in the 'ton) My main mods i had were healing and bullet absorb for bots, the jump mod so i can get to hard to reach places.
I just play the way I deem worthy. Of course the way of the sword is the way to go!

There are no UNATCO "imposters". Just regular grunts who've been told that you turned traitor.
And the means to save JC^H^H Paul is very well-known.

Dontcha mean Paul?
