Just to remind you all. Thief 1's E3 trailer. Compare it to the Thief 4 trailers. - by SubJeff

You've got to be kidding.
For starters, do a search on "Subjective Effect" sometime.
Why are you picking on me? Waaaahhhhhh.
Aaaaanyway.
My point was really simple so its no surprise that people didn't get it - trailers may not be a completely accurate reflection of the actual game. You can use this for movies as well. Both revelations, I know.
But tbh, we're all enjoying these reveals and realistically its not looking half as bad as all the naysayers were worried about. It could still turn out to be a TDS type failure, but its far from the awful "abomination" that many were lamenting over prior to the fact .

How do you know? The game has NOT BEEN RELEASED YET!
It could be the abomination everyone fears or not be as bad, we will not know until the game comes out.
I am not getting it when it comes out. It will be a bargain bin game for me at this point. Too many negatives. Plus there are so many other great games coming out I can view this in my own time.
To each his own.
You acting like older fans should just accept it reminds me of new fans of the new star trek movie saying the older fans should just accept that!
No, they DON'T have to accept it. They were brought up on the original TV series...not the REBOOT that the movies are. Same with this game. Most including myself simply HATE REBOOTS! To me it shows a game developers lack of making anything new! In other words....THEY ARE LAZY! They have no imiganation anymore so why not rehash what has sold well in the past? They do it with TV, Movies and music...so why not games? Does not mean I have to like it!
I could have had WAY more respect if these people had of used something other than Garrett. Then maybe I could have at least enjoyed this reboot.
Not that I think the star trek reboot movies are absolutely horrible, but because they cannot seem to come up with something of their own, that is why I despise reboots. And hey, I am a star trek fan from way back but thought the movies were pretty good...STILL they did NOT touch the originals in my mind. I do not see this game as being any different. It may even turn out to be a decent game, but it will NEVER BE what the original games from LGS were and are to me. Never!
I do not expect it to be 1995 all over again, but I ALSO do expect that in 2013 a game developer could and should be able to come up with a Thief like idea and be something NEW while not rehashing an old title that people hold dear.
Just my thoughts on this game.

Reboots aren't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it's cool to do different things with an interesting setting and group of characters. If it were truly as unimaginative as you're claiming, all they'd do is pick up what's already established and do a half ass job of working with it.
Like take The Dark Knight trilogy. It's a reboot of Batman. Christopher Nolan took the characters and setting and put his own personalized spin on it. He took an old idea and did something different with it. Compare that to that recent Psycho remake, where every shot and spoken word were recreated in exacting detail. That's....yeah. It's pretty lame. The end result wasn't anywhere near as good as the original, despite not doing anything with it.
Reboots in and of themselves aren't bad, so long as the people doing the rebooting do something nice with it.

That is only YOUR OPINION...it is not mine! So do not even try to get me to think that because I firmly reject it. They are a LAZY way of making money! They take what was once considered something that sold good and usually destroy it! You call that GOOD? I don't!

No what is cool is to come upo with your own idea of a game! Not take someone else's idea and act like it is new. You don't have a leg to stand on in that argument.

Again, that is your opinion not mine. If people want to be truly innovative, they need to get their own ideas out there! Not steal from someone else!
Take the movie Avatar for example....now there is an example of what people can come up with if they put their minds to it. It was totally new and made a good amount of money because it was a very good story.
What you seem to do is make excuses for people who want to make reboots, instead of coming up with something new themselves. To me, there is not much excuse for it. It is called laziness.

Look at my registration date.
I got Thief Gold based on a review of Thief in a magazine I had, the year Thief came out. And I got Thief 2 and 3 on their respective release days. I remember travelling into London Victoria because there was a game shop there (I lived in south London) and getting it off the shelf with a big grin on my face. That was one of the longest train rides home ever. It was from Victoria to Denmark Hill.
I AM an older fan.
Idiot.

So if EM picked up exactly where LGS left off and continued the character as they started it...that's good. It's imaginative. But if the take the character and do their own thing with it, interpreting it in their own way...that's bad. It's bland and uninspired.
How the hell does this even make sense to you?

It's something that's been done since the dawn of storytelling. Hell, it's something that happens around here all the time with FMs and Thief fanfiction. Are they uncreative bastards stealing someone else's good idea? By your definition they are.
Though of course you'll say something like "but...but...but they're not making any money. They're doing it out of LOOOOVEEEEE" in response. And...you know...whatever.
You're being overly myopic.

The word "innovative" is about the most abused word on the internet. It's the new "relevant".
You can be equally "innovative" by taking someones idea and doing something new with it. Hell, part of the definition of "innovation" is improving upon an existing design. It's not always something whipped up from the bare aethers, born upon the wings of zephyrs, as whispered into your ear by an inspiring muse with a single boob hanging out of her dress.

You mean Pocahontas in space? Yeah, that example better serves my argument than it does yours.

No, it's called I'M RIGHTEOUSLY INDIGNANT AND WANT TO HATE SOMETHING FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN RRAARRRRH EM SUKZ

I wish. My only comedy account was the barely used RajunAznCajun, and it got deleted long ago.

whoah wait what happened in 1995? Also most of your favourite films are reboots of some kind or another.

This gave me a good laugh. Thank you! :thumb: Avatar was everything but new and original.
