Just to remind you all. Thief 1's E3 trailer. Compare it to the Thief 4 trailers. - by SubJeff

I find it unfair to compare videos from completely different eras as expectations were different and content of that video was partly misleading with action, to tactically draw attention to something nobody else has tried before, which is a pure stealth simulated game you'd end up buying all of a sudden.
All in all I agree with Infinitron's point, besides if anyone really want me to judge on something that would be the minimalist concept of hud/ui gone backwards instead of forward with Thief franchise.

...as expectations were different...
I humbly submit the contention that they are not. Action-heavy trailers have been common for games (and movies, and TV shows) for as long as I can remember.

Well you say the mantling is neat now but elsewhere all you do is moan.
And the game would have turned out perfectly all right if it weren't for us moaning minnies! :thumb:

I mean the stealth expectations were different, propably near non existant before Thief brought it to light, so action which I agree has always been common was a way to emphasise which to this day has not changed one bit. :)

Guys, you know I think TTLGers are the best people in the world and I love you all to pieces and you should also know I have a personal aversion to editing posts so please stop picking on each other in this thread or any other, otherwise I'm just going to get cross and go crazy with the delete button. I really hate spending my time trawling through rubbish and you're all better than that anyway.

The flip-side to the compare the trailers argument is that the T4 demo was entirely underwhelming given that this is E3 and it's competing with all the dazzle and spectacle one of the world's biggest entertainment sectors can muster.

I was very impressed by the new MGSV trailer. Out of nine minutes, the first gunshot is fired after the 6th minute, and it remains pretty much the only gunplay in the trailer. The rest is stealth/open-world stuff, and it's all fantastic. Of course, it's an MGS trailer so you can't necessarily compare it directly with... well, anything... and of course, everything got insane in the last minute or two, but I think the first half of the trailer worked perfectly well, and I was actually the most impresed by it. All the MGS sound and fury didn't do much for me, but seeing the weather and light effects on gameplay really sold the game for me.
My point is: I think you can do a stealth gameplay trailer if you try. EM have not tried.
