Just starting out... Performance issues? - by Gonchong

I think that stutter will always occur, no matter how powerful your rig is. Beware that if you accumulate a lot of stuff in one place, usually you'll get a long pause as you approach that place.

Good stuff, thanks for the tips. I'll be sure to check out Dark Valley.
Also, a very good weapon for early stages can be found in the Garbage - modified MP5 that uses 9x18 bullets. I just found it yesterday, it was on a corpse in the very end of the railroad tunnel with lots of anomalies. I believe it's considerably better than AK74 - much lesser recoil and much higher rate of fire with about equal stopping power of a bullet.

I often tried to go into that railroad tunnel but it was so swarmed with anomalies that I could barely move around. Or maybe are we talking about different rail tunnels?

There is only one :) It also seemed almost impossible to me when I played for the first time. But it's actually not hard to reach the very end and return back with 100% health. You can avoid radiation and anomalies if you move carefully.

I tried to navigate in there for a while, since all those pretty artifacts were scattered around. Maybe I should return there and give it another shot.

AFAIR, there aren't many artifacts in the tunnel, the modified MP5 is the only relatively valuable thing.
But on top of three radiactive hills there are lots.

Isn't the modded MP5 like immensely valuable, for gameplay reasons at least? I'm ready to go through hell to reach that thing and get back out.

So there is something in there after all <.<
Never managed to proceed far and all the bolt-throwing in the world didnt reveal a safe path, so i just dismissed it as a deathtrap (and comic relief because you'd always find one or two bandits/dogs/boars in there) replacement for the fences and mega radiation hits preventing you from walking outta the map. Gotta pick up Stalker again when the new Float is out :o

I found it very good against quick monsters like dogs. With AK47 it's harder to kill them because of high recoil and low rate of fire. I don't think it's more powerful than ordinary MP5/Viper, it just uses wide-spread 9x18 bullets, it's a big advantage considering the speed with which it consumes them.
PS: I wrote MP5 because I believe that Viper in the game is actually codename of MP5, or is it actually Uzi?

Yes, the Viper is in reality the HK-MP5.
I don't think I ever use it. I stick to the AKS-74U until I can get an Abakan or Strelok's fast shooting AK-74.
