Just starting out... Performance issues? - by Gonchong

Another gig of memory should arrive today... I'll report later.
Meanwhile I've been exploring Garbage. (Static Lighting..) Scary atmosphere, and I keep getting hosed by bandits. I also keep running out of breath - I think I'm carrying too many scavanged pistols.

Just put some of the stuff you're carrying inside a stash (plenty of them in Garbage) and come back to get it later. If you carry less than 50Kg you'll be able to run for longer.

Yeah, greed is my problem too in this game, even though I know perfectly that there is enough ammunition, armour and weapons in this game for free without needing to buy anything from sellers (I think it's a major fault).
Suggestion: while you in the Garbage look in Dark Valley, just at the DV - Garbage transition point there is three rare and powerful artifacts - one that will give you +5% resistance againts bullets without any penalty (I think the best type of artifacts in the game), and two Souls (+600% to life regeneration speed).

Well, I'm also a pack rat. I was just playing and finally got my hands on the Tourist Suit, which means that I'm in heaven because I'm now able to carry 70Kg. It will still be a long time before I can get an Exo suit, so this is the next best thing.

Me being a pack rat, I find it a little annoying that you are suddenly unable to move if you reach 60 (or 70) kgs. After the number gets red you should be able to grab stuff but you progressively run slower as the weight number goes up, rather than you can walk quickly but all of a sudden you can't move if you pick up a piece of bread. :o

What? :eek:
Never even heard about it, where did you find it?

After lab X18, you can get it as a reward from Sidirovitch. In those jobs that he usually has available, you'll have to do the following missions for him:
- Bring me the Jellyfish artifact;
- Bring me the Stone Flower artifact;
- Bring me the Meat Chunk artifact;
- Bring me the Night Star artifact.
You'll receive the Tourist Suit as a reward for accomplishing this last mission. Note that the 'Bring me the Night Star artifact' mission will only become available after you get the docs from X18 and show them to Sid. Before that, Sidirovitch will only give you the first three missions.
Night Stars aren't easily found during the earlier stages of the game (although they are very common in Pripyat), but you can get one as a reward from Baldy - he's inside the Bar - if you accomplish a mission for him, which is to kill a Stalker in the Army Warehouse area.

Thanks for the info, will try that. But I suppose the suit is good only for early stages armour-wise?
D'Arcy on 11/7/2007 at 10:07
The suit is exactly like a Stalker Suit, the only difference being that you can carry up to 70Kg. Its stats are:
Electric Shock - 50%
Burn - 50%
Impact - 50%
Rupture - 40%
Radiation - 50%
Chemical Burn - 50%
Explosion - 30%
Bulletproof Cap - 30%
Even after getting a better suit, I still won't get rid of this one, and keep it stashed somewhere. For someone with my style of gameplay, it will be very useful to move stuff around, as I'm constantly doing several travels across the map just moving stuff from one stash to another.

Good stuff, thanks for the tips. I'll be sure to check out Dark Valley.
As for the system, the extra gig nails it. Runs pretty smooth in Full Dynamic mode and the texture detail maxed, with the odd loading stutter occasionally when you are moving from place to place. As a side effect from all this upgrading Thief:Deadly Shadows actually runs at an acceptable pace.
