great thing about this game is the potential of the player to play it so differently, even if they intend to play it with the same augs, skills etc, by nature of experiencing different areas, missing out on conversations et al. it adds a real depth and re-playability to it.

Bleh, the first time will be more fun if he just does what feels right to him at the time, IMO ... not to stop anyone posting advice, of course! It's just I wouldn't recommend loading and going back. It's really not that big a deal.

Yes, recommending to do something is a touchy issue and I thought about it too before replying. Usually, I'll try to avoid it like plague (because it's borderline self-sufficient patronizing) but since Zaccheus wasn't that far yet and there really are some goodies and those always important points available, I thought it wouldn't be that big deal either to go back a little. Your pick, take it or leave it.
Still, finding 'everything' on the first time drops the replay value somewhat, so it's actually better to miss some stuff early on.
As a side note and also going together with discovering things, during my last run with DX I came across a whole bunch of never before heard dialogues and such. I was pretty damn amazed about that, since I thought I'd heard them all. What do you say; could it be that if from the very beginning you do your best to unlock every e-mail, conversation etc. that towards the end this will somehow trigger some specific other pieces?

Well, the first time I played I did almost what Zacheus did (I shot the explosive barrels instead), and it didn't impact on my progress.

I did something like that, too. It's just seemed too tricky to try to sneak up on all the NSF guys, so I thought : 'The hell with it, lets blow this joint:p' and left the exploring for the next time.
Progress of the game isn't the issue:confused:It's really up to yourself what to do- the story won't be affected whether you look around some more or just drop by to zoog the generator. However: there're goodies and points to be found, so why leave perfectly good stuff behind? Really, it's up to you own preferences.

Rightio, it just seemed to me that you were saying he would find it hard to progress without the benefit of the points and upgrades you oculd find down there ... :o

I used the gas grenades and then shot the terrorists.
:)
I did lot's of exploring, but didn't find any AUGs though.
Oh yeah, I used the computer terminal to cause the generator to self destruct.
In the subway after I rescue the hostages I usually move all the TNT but one to the far side and then blow up the tripwires. That way I have lots of handy crates of flaming death to play with. You know you can take them with you (one at a time) to Hell's Kitchen right?
Zaccheus the aforementioned goodies are in the basement of the NSF warehouse. You can get there by way of several ramps, or by swimming. The Aug is in a locked safe in the basement security room. I usually just blow it open.

That's where it is. You may want to check the alleys, a sewer and the laoding ramp too, since you're there.
Following Lytha's hint, I revisited the basement, got some extra supplies, and (finally) found the AUG after blowing up the computer room down there.
:cheeky:
Now I'm (once again) standing in front of UNATCO HQ.
It's starting to feel like ground hog day.
